7.
Disconnect steering lower joint. Then release steering shaft and steering gear assembly. Refer to
8.
Remove A/T fluid cooler tube. Refer to
AT-249, "TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY"
.
9.
Remove A/T control rod at transmission side. Refer to
AT-215, "SHIFT CONTROL SYSTEM"
10. Preparation for the separation work of transmission is as follows:
a.
Remove crankshaft position sensor (POS) from transmission. Refer to
b.
Remove rear plate cover from oil pan. Then remove bolts fixing drive plate to torque converter. Refer to
EM-26, "OIL PAN AND OIL STRAINER"
AT-249, "TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY"
c.
Remove transmission joint bolts which pierce at oil pan lower rear side. Refer to
Removal Work
1.
Use a manual lift table cabby (commercial service tool) or equiv-
alently rigid tool such as a transmission jack. Securely support
bottom of suspension member and transmission oil pan.
CAUTION:
Put a piece of wood or something similar as the supporting
surface, secure a completely stable condition.
2.
Remove power steering oil pump from engine side. Refer to
3.
Remove rear member mounting bolts.
4.
Remove suspension member mounting nuts and bolts. Refer to
FSU-5, "FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEM-
.
5.
Carefully lower engine, transmission and suspension member assembly. When performing work, observe
the following caution.
CAUTION:
●
Confirm there is no interference with vehicle.
●
Make sure all connection points have been disconnected.
●
Keep in mind the center of vehicle gravity changes. If necessary, use jack(s) to support vehicle
at rear jacking point(s) to prevent it from falling it off the lift.
Separation Work
1.
Install engine slingers into front of left bank cylinder head and
rear of right bank cylinder head.
2.
Remove engine mounting insulators (right and left) upper side nut.
3.
Lift with hoist and separate engine and transmission assembly from suspension member.
4.
Remove starter motor. Refer to
.
5.
Separate engine from transmission assembly. Refer to
AT-249, "TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY"
INSTALLATION
Note the following, and install in the reverse order of removal.

ENGINE ASSEMBLY
●
Where positioning pin is used, be sure to securely insert it into
the hole of mating part.
●
When installing front engine mounting bracket to cylinder block,
first tighten two bolts on upper side. Then, tighten two bolts on
lower side. (The same applies to both right and left.)
INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION
inspection for Leaks
The following are procedures for checking fluids leak, lubricates leak and exhaust gases leak.
●
Before starting engine, check oil/fluid levels including engine coolant and engine oil. If less than required
quantity, fill to the specified level. Refer to
MA-10, "RECOMMENDED FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS"
●
Use procedure below to check for fuel leakage.
–
Turn ignition switch “ON” (with engine stopped). With fuel pressure applied to fuel piping, check for fuel
leakage at connection points.
–
Start engine. With engine speed increased, check again for fuel leakage at connection points.
●
Run engine to check for unusual noise and vibration.
●
Warm up engine thoroughly to make sure there is no leakage of fuel, exhaust gas, or any oils/fluids includ-
ing engine oil and engine coolant.
●
Bleed air from passages in lines and hoses, such as in cooling system.
●
After cooling down engine, again check oil/fluid levels including engine oil and engine coolant. Refill to
specified level, if necessary.
Summary of the inspection items:
* Transmission/transaxle/CVT fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, etc.

DISASSEMBLY
NOTE:
Explained here is how to disassemble with engine stand supporting transmission surface. When using differ-
ent type of engine stand, note with difference in steps and etc.
1.
Remove engine assembly. Refer to
2.
Remove the parts that may restrict installation of engine to widely use engine stand.
NOTE:
The procedure is described assuming that you use a widely use engine stand holding the surface, to
which transmission is installed.
