Reading the Transmission Code on the Transmission Installed
To read the transmission code letters under the console directly
from the transmission, the engine and transmission must be sup‐
ported. The left subframe mount transmission bracket -A- must
be removed. It is important to lower the engine/transmission just
enough until it is possible to slide the bracket toward the rear. Do
not lower farther otherwise the pendulum support will be dam‐

Additionally the transmission code it on top of the transmission
near the selector lever cable -arrows-.

General Safety Precautions
Observe the following to Avoid Personal Injury and Vehicle Dam‐
age:
WARNING
There is a risk of injury and accident from accidentally engag‐
ing a gear when the engine is running.
♦ Move the selector lever into “P” and set the parking brake
before working on a running engine.
To Prevent Personal Injury and Damage to Electrical and Elec‐
tronic Components, Observe the Following:
♦ Connect and disconnect test equipment only when the ignition
is off.
Caution
Risk of damaging electronic components when disconnecting
the battery.
♦ Complete the steps for disconnecting the battery.
♦ Always turn off the ignition before disconnecting the bat‐
tery.

2.2
Start/Stop System Safety Precautions
When Working on Vehicles with Start/Stop, Note the Following:
WARNING
Danger of injury through automatic motor starting with vehicles
with the Start/Stop System.
♦ For vehicles with an activated Start/Stop System (recog‐
nizable from a notification in the instrument cluster), the
motor can be started automatically if needed.
♦ Always make sure the Start/Stop System is disabled when
working on the vehicle (turn off ignition, if needed, turn the
ignition back on).
