Circuit operation

Headlight leveling device (With airbag)

In case that airbag system is equipped on vehicle, when the headlight switch is turned to "HEAD" position the
one side coil of the HEADLIGHT relay is grounded through light switch (the other side is powered through
"HEAD" fuse).
When the relay is energized, the normally open contacts of the HEADLIGHT relay close, allowing battery
voltage to be applied to the right and left headlight leveling device motor through "RR FOG(10A)" fuse, and
R/G wire. Each terminal A(B) of the headlight leveling device motors is grounded through B wire.
When changing the position of the headlight leveling device switch, the inter resistance of headlight leveling
device switch varies according to its position. The headlight leveling device motors operate and stop in
specified position.
In case that airbag system is not equipped on vehicle, when the headlight switch is turned to "HEAD" position
battery voltage is applied to the right and left headlight leveling device motors through the headlight switch, "RR
FOG (10A)" fuse, and R/G wire.

Headlight leveling device (Without airbag)

When the headlight switch is turned to "HEAD" position, battery voltage is applied to the right and left headlight
leveling device motor through "RR FOG(10A)" fuse, and R/G wire. Each terminal A(B) of the headlight leveling
device motors isgrounded through B wire.
When changing the position of the headlight leveling device switch, the inter resistance of headlight leveling
device switch varies according to its position. The headlight leveling device motors operate and stop in
specified position.
In case that airbag system is not equipped on vehicle, when the headlight switch is turned to "HEAD" position
battery voltage is applied to the right and left headlight leveling device motors through the headlight switch, "RR
FOG(10A)" fuse, and R/G wire.

Trubleshooting

Headlight leveling device (With air-bag)

Preliminary check:
Check "RR FOG (10A)". If open, check for short to ground though the R/G wire and overload, replace fuse and
check for a poor connection of all relevant connectors.
Headlight leveling device does not operate.

Turn the headlight to "HEAD" position.
Connect test light between LH headlight
leveling device terminal C(R/G) of E-21
(RH:E-22) and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open and short circuits in the wire
"R/G" or replace R/G wire.

Connect test light between LH headlight
leveling device terminal C(R/G) of E-21
(RH:E-22) and A(B) of E-21(RH:E-22).
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check a poor connection in the wire "B" at
ground. If OK, repair open circuits in B wire
or replace B wire.

Ground test light between LH headlight
leveling device witch terminal B(R/G) of
E-20 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open and short circuits in the wire
"R/G" or replace R/G wire.

Connect test light between LH headlight
leveling device witch terminal B(R/G) of
E-20b and terminal C(B) of E-20.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection in the wire "B"
at ground.
If OK, repair open circuits in B wire or
replace B wire.

Disconnect the headlight-leveling switch.
Check if there is a change of resistance
between terminal D and C(or between D
and B) by adjusting the switch.

Yes

Go to next step

No

Replace the headlight-leveling device
switch.

Connect the headlight-leveling device
switch.
Connect test light from the LH headlight
leveling device switch terminal B(L/W) of
E-21 (RH:E-22) and ground.Is test light ON

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at the LH
headlight level device. If OK, replace the
LH headlight leveling device.

Connect test light from the headlight
leveling device switch terminal D(L/W) of
E-20 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at the
headlight leveling device switch. If OK,
check headlight leveling device switch.

No

Repair open and short circuits in the wire
"L/W" or replace L/W wire.
