Seats, interior

Accessory socket

Accessory sockets can b e used to connect
electrical accessories. The battery is

discharged if the engine is not running .
Do not dama ge the sock ets by using

unsuitable plugs. The ma ximum power
consump tion of elec trica l a ccessories must

not exceed 120 wa tts.
Do not connect any current-delivering

accessories, e.g. electrica l charging
devices or ba tteries.
Electrical accessories connected to the
soc ket m ust comp ly with the elec tro-

mag netic compatibility requirem ents
laid d ow n in DIN VDE 40 839, otherw ise

vehic le ma lfunctions m ay occur.
If the tyre repair kit is being used,

consumers must not be connected to
the a uxilia ry socket a t the same time.

Brake system, clutch system

clutch fluid lev el is too low.
Flashes at sp eeds ov er 8 km /h (5 mph) if
hand brak e is app lied.
Release ha nd brake before continuing
journey, to avoid overheating and

dam aging the b rake system.

Eng ine oil pressure

Control indicator illum inates in red.
Illuminates when the ignition is switched on

and goes out shortly after the engine has
started.
If it illuminates when the eng ine is running:
Engine lubrication may b e interrupted.

This m ay result in da mage to the eng ine
and/or lock ing of the drive wheels:
1. Move out of the flow of tra ffic as quickly

as possible w ithout impeding other

vehicles.

2. Depress clutch.
3. Shift into neutral.
4. Switch off ignition.

Check engine oil level before consulting a
work shop.

Warning

When the engine is off, consid erably
more force is need ed to brak e and steer.
Do not rem ov e key until vehicle has come
to a standstill, otherwise the steering

column loc k could eng age unexpectedly.

Coolant temp era ture

Control indicator illuminates in red.

Stop and switch off engine. Coolant

Airb ag system s, belt tensioners

Control indicator illuminates in red.
If it illuminates w hen the engine is running:

Fault in airbag system or belt tensioners –

Driver’s seat b elt

Control indicator illuminates or flashes in
red.
Illuminates for app rox. 20 second s w hen
the ignition is switched on, or until driver’s

seat belt is fastened. Fla shes for a further
60 seconds if seat belt remains unfa stened.
If seat belt remains unfastened when the
vehicle is being driven, control indicator

illuminates for approx. 20 sec onds and
flashes for a further 60 sec onds.

Control indicator goes out imm ediately.

2000 and 3000 rpm) and maintain an ev en
vehicle speed.

Indicates the vehic le speed.

Fuel gaug e

Nev er run the ta nk dry!
Because of the fuel remaining in the tank,
the amount of fuel required to fill the tank

may be less than the specified ta nk
capacity.

Driver information centre

Displays vehic le information and also
check control warning messa ges when the

ignition is on.
The type of information and how it is

displayed depends on the settings made in
personalisation m od e. Some information

and w arning messa ges appear on the
display in abbrev iated form.

Selecting func tions

Functions and settings can be a ccessed via
the d riv er information centre.
This is done using buttons S and T
located on the left side of the steering

wheel. The relevant menu options are then
shown on the disp lay one after the other.
If check control warning messages are
displayed, the disp la y is blocked for other

func tions. Acknowled ge the message by
pressing button S or T. If there a re

several warning messages, acknowled ge
them one at a time.

Information display

The inform ation d isplay provides

information on driving data, which is
continually recorded and ev alua ted

electronically.
With the ignition on, press button S to

reach the next m enu item .
Press and hold button T to reset relev ant

menu item s.
Some information app ears on the display

in abbrev iated form.
The menu items are disp la yed in the

following order:
z Outside air tem perature and odometer,

z TRIP A (Trip odometer),
z TRIP B (Trip odom eter),

z FUEL RANGE (dista nc e to empty),
z ECON (Avera ge fuel consumption),

z AV SPEED (Avera ge speed),
z OIL LIFE,

z COOLANT,
z BOOST.
When the ignition is switched off a nd back
on a gain, the previously displayed menu

item is show n.

Outside temperatur e a nd odometer

Displays outside tem perature and record
of total kilom etres/miles driven (odometer)

when the ignition is on.
With the ignition off, the odometer is

presented for app rox. 10 seconds when a
door is opened.

A fall in temperature is indica ted

after a time delay.
The outside temperature is displayed in
either deg rees Celsius (

If outside tempera ture is low ,

"ICE POSSIBLE" appears in the disp lay as a
warning for icy road surfaces.

Tr ip odom eter

Displays d istance travelled in kilometres
(k m) or miles (mi) since the last reset.
Select menu item TRIP A or TRIP B in the
information display.
Both odom eters can b e used at the same
tim e.
Each trip odom eter can be reset to z ero
separately at any tim e.

Fuel range

Displays the rem aining dista nce the vehicle
can trav el in kilometres (km) or m iles (mi),

based on current fuel tank contents and
av erage fuel consum ption. The display

show s a verage va lues.
The vehicle updates the range

automatically after a b rief dela y when the
vehicle has been refuelled.
Selec t menu item FUEL RANGE in the
inform ation display.
The fuel range cannot b e reset.

Average fuel consumption

Displays the average amount of fuel used
in litres per 100 kilom etres (L/100km ) or

miles per gallon (MPG), based on the
distance travelled and the amount of fuel

used since the la st reset.
Select menu item ECON in the information

display.
The measurement ca n be reset at a ny time.

Avera ge sp eed

Displays the a verage vehicle speed in
kilometres per hour (km/h) or miles per hour

(mph) since the last reset.
Selec t menu item AV SPEED in the

inform ation display.
The measurement can be reset at any time.
Stopp ages in the journey with the ignition
off are not included in the c alcula tions.

Interrup tion of power supply
If the power supply has been interrupted or

the b attery volta ge d rops too low, the
values stored in the information display will

be lost.

Engine oil life monitor

Displays a n estimate of the engine oil’s
remaining useful life as a percentage, since

the last reset.
When the system has been reset after an

engine oil c hange, the disp lay will show
100%.
Select menu item OIL LIFE in the
information display.

Coolant temp era ture

Displays engine coolant temperature in
degrees Celsius (

pounds per square inch (psi).
Select menu item BOOST in the information

Personalisation mode

With the ignition on and the vehicle
stationary, press and hold b uttons S and

at the sa me tim e to enter the

personalisation mode.
Menu item OIL LIFE RESET will ap pear.
Engine oil life monitor - see pages 63, 69,

Press button S to rea ch the next menu

item.
Press and hold button T for approx.

1 second to scroll through the av ailable
settings for each menu item.
Press button S to select the currently
displayed setting a nd prog ress to the next

and the display goes back to the previously
displayed information display mode.
The personalisation mode will also end
imm ediately if the ignition is switched off.

Setting units of m easur em ent

You ca n selec t which units of m easurement
are to b e used.
Select menu item U NITS in the
personalisation mode.
Settings includ e "ENGLISH " and "METRIC".
When "EN GLISH" is selected, all

information will be displayed in English
units, e.g. d istance will be shown in miles

(m i) and fuel consum ption in m iles per
gallon (M PG).
When "METRIC" (default) is selected , all
information will be displayed in metric

units, e.g. d istance will be shown in
kilometres (km ) and fuel consum ption in

litres per 100 kilometres (L/100k m).

Lock horn

This feature causes the horn to sound ev ery
time button e is pressed on the remote

control and can be enabled or disab led.
Selec t menu item LOCK HORN in the

personalisation m od e.
Settings include "OFF" a nd "ON".
When "OFF" (default) is selected, the horn
will not sound on the first press of b utton e.

The horn will still sound on the second
press, to confirm locking has already ta ken

place.
When "ON" is selected, the horn w ill sound

every time button e is p ressed.

Unlock horn

This feature causes the horn to sound on
the first press of button c on the remote

control and can be enab led or d isabled.
Select menu item UNLOCK H ORN in the

personalisation mode.
Setting s include "OFF" and "ON ".
When "OFF" (default) is selected , the horn
will not sound w hen button c is pressed.
When "ON" is selected, the horn will sound
on the first press of button c .

Lig ht flash

This fea ture causes the hazard warning
lamps to flash every time button c, e or

s is pressed on the remote control and
can be enabled or disabled .
Select menu item LIGH T FLASH in the
personalisation mode.
Settings includ e "OFF" and "ON".
When "OFF" is selec ted, the hazard

warning lamps w ill not flash when b utton c ,
e or s is pressed.
When "ON" (default) is p ressed, the haza rd
warning la mps will flash every time button

c, e or s is p ressed.

Delayed locking

This feature d elays the actual locking of
the doors and can be enabled or disabled .
Selec t menu item DELAY LOCK in the
personalisation m od e.
Settings include "OFF" a nd "ON".
When "OFF" is selected , the doors will lock

imm ediately when button e is p ressed on
the remote control.
When "ON" (d efault) is selected , the doors
will not lock until approx. 5 seconds after

the last d oor is closed when button e is
pressed on the remote control.
To bypa ss the delay, press button e again.
The doors will lock immediately.

Autom atic unloc king

This feature enables certa in doors to
unlock automatically w hen the k ey is

turned to ignition sw itch position J and
can be ena bled or disabled.
Select menu item AUTO U NLK in the
personalisation mode.
Setting s include "ALL", "DRIVER" and
"N ONE".
When "ALL" (default) is selected, both
doors will unlock autom atically.
When "DRIVER " is selected , only the driver’s
door will unlock automatically.
When "NONE" is selected, neither door will
unlock automatically.

Welcom e light function

This fea ture actuates the exterior lamps
when button c is pressed on the remote

control. This feature can be enabled or
disab led.
Select menu item EXT LIGHTS in the
personalisation mode.
Settings includ e "OFF" and "ON".
When "ON " (default) is selected, the

exterior lamps will illuminate for app rox.
20 seconds or until a door is op ened when

button c is p ressed on the remote control.
When "OFF" is selected, exterior lamps will

not illuminate w hen button c is pressed on
the rem ote control.

Languag e selection

You can select the display language for
some functions.
Selec t menu item LANGUAGE in the
personalisation m od e.
Settings include "ENGLISH", "FREN CH",
"SPAN ISH" and "GERMAN".

Check control warning messages

Check control monitors several fluid levels,

the remote control battery, the eng ine, the
fuel filler cap and the status of several

vehicle features including cruise control,
tra ction control, the Electronic Stability

Program (ESP) and the airbag systems.
"ESC" ap pears in some warning messages.

Elec tronic Stability Control (ESC) is a
component part of the Electronic Stability

Program (ESP), im proving driving stability.
Warning messages appear in the driv er

information centre and a chime may sound
when the m essa ge is displayed. If there are

several warning messages, they are
displayed one after the other.
Some of the warning messages ap pear on
the display in a bbrevia ted form.
Exa mples of warning messages are shown
on the following pages.
Ac know ledge warning messages as
described on page 60. The messages will

clear from the display when the condition
no longer exists.
Una cknowledged warning messages will
be redisplayed later if the condition still

exists.

Warning messages:

AUTO LIGHTS OFF

Auto light control is disa bled via the switch

on the lig hting lever.

AUTO LIGHTS ON

Auto light control is re-enabled via the

switch on the lighting lev er.
The message will only appear when a uto

light control ha s b een switched off and
bac k on again.
It will not a ppear when the ig nition is
switched on.

DOOR AJAR

BRAKE FLUID

Brake/clutch fluid lev el is low. Control

indicator R also illum inates in the
instrument panel. Top up brake/clutch

fluid .
After correcting brake/clutch fluid level,

have the ca use of fluid loss remedied by a
workshop.

CHANGE OIL S OON

Engine oil life has expired. Change engine

oil.
Make an appointment with a workshop for

Service work as soon a s p ossible.
Engine oil change, eng ine oil filter change -

see page 154.
Acknowled ging the message by pressing

button S or T does not reset the engine
oil life m onitor. See engine oil life monitor

on pages 63, 151 for further information.

COMPETITIVE MODE

Competitiv e d riv ing mode ha s b een

selected via button R on the centre
console.
Control indica tor v illuminates in the
instrument panel.
Ad just your driving a ccording ly.

CR UISE EN GAGED

Cruise control has been a ctivated via the
buttons located on the left side of the

steering wheel.

DOOR AJAR

One or more of the doors a re not closed
prop erly. Close driver’s door and

passenger’s door.

ENGINE DIS ABLED

Starting of the engine has been disabled .
Consult a work shop imm ediately.

ESC ACTIVE

ESP has come into action, to assist driving

stability in slippery road conditions. Control
indicator v also fla shes in the instrument

panel. Adjust your driving accordingly.
The m essag e ma y rem ain for a short w hile

after ESP assistance has ended.
Electronic Stability Program (ESP) -

see page 118.

ESC OFF

ESP has been switched off via button R on

the centre console, or a fault is present.
Control indicator v also illuminates in the

instrument panel. Adjust your driving
acc ordingly.

FUEL RANGE LOW

Fuel level is low. Fill up fuel tank.
Refuelling - see page 114.

ICE POS SIBLE

Icy roa d cond itions are possible due to low
outside air temperature. Adjust your
