Apply protective tape (A) on the part to protect it from damage.

Disengage fixing pawls from steering column cover front side.
d.
Disengage fixing pawls using a remover tool (A), and then remove steering column cover upper by arrow
as shown in the figure.
e.
Disengage fixing pawl, and then remove steering column cover
lower.
29. Remove spiral cable. Refer to
SR-23, "Removal and Installation"

30. Remove steering angle sensor. Refer to
BRC-222, "Removal and Installation"

31. Remove combination switch. Refer to

32. Remove passenger air bag module mounting bolts
.
33. Disconnect passenger air bag module harness connector
.
CAUTION:
• For installing/removing the passenger air bag module har-
ness connector, insert a thin screwdriver wrapped in tape
into notch, lift lock and remove the connector.
• Install the connector with lock raised, and push lock into
the connector.
• After installing the connector, check that the lock is
pushed securely into it.
34. Remove instrument panel assembly.

Remove fuse block fixing screw
and BCM fixing screw

Disengage sunload sensor harness fixing clips. (if equipped)
d.
Disconnect harness connectors of front pillar LH and RH portions.
e.
Disengage harness fixing clips and remove harness from instrument panel assembly.
f.
Remove instrument panel assembly from passenger door opening portion.
CAUTION:
• Cover shift selector upper surface with a shop cloth to prevent it from being damaged.
• When removing instrument panel assembly, 2 workers are required to prevent it from dropping.
35. Remove the following parts after removing instrument panel assembly.
• Passenger air bag module: Refer to
SR-26, "Removal and Installation"
.
• Center ventilator duct: Refer to
VTL-10, "CENTER VENTILATOR DUCT : Removal and Installation"
.
• Side defroster grille (LH and RH): Refer to
VTL-12, "SIDE DEFROSTER GRILLE : Removal and Instal-
• Side defroster nozzle (LH and RH): Refer to
VTL-11, "SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE : Removal and
.
INSTALLATION
Note the following items, and then install in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:
• Never reuse the steering wheel mounting bolt after removal, replace with the new bolt.
• Never reuse the passenger air bag module mounting bolts after removal, replace with the new bolts.
