TEST
ACTION
APPLICABILITY

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the A/C High Pressure Switch harness connector.
Connect a jumper wire between the terminals of the A/C High Pressure Switch
harness connector.
Start the engine and turn on the A/C.
Does the A/C operate?
All
Yes
→ Replace the A/C High Pressure Switch.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Go To 4
NOTE: Reconnect the A/C High Pressure Switch.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the A/C Low Pressure Switch harness connector.
Connect a jumper wire between the terminals of the A/C Low Pressure Switch
harness connector.
Start the engine and turn on the A/C.
Does the A/C operate?
All
Yes
→ Replace the A/C Low Pressure Switch.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Go To 5
NOTE: Reconnect the A/C Low Pressure Switch.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the A/C High Pressure Switch harness connector.
Connect a jumper wire between ground and the A/C High Pressure Signal circuit.
Start the engine and turn on the A/C.
Does the A/C operate?
All
Yes
→ Go To 6
No
→ Go To 8

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the A/C Low Pressure Switch harness connector.
Connect a jumper wire between ground and the A/C Low Pressure Signal circuit.
Start the engine and turn on the A/C.
Does the A/C operate?
All
Yes
→ Go To 7
No
→ Repair the A/C Low Pressure Signal circuit for an open.
NOTE: Reconnect the A/C Low Pressure Switch.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the A/C Low Pressure Switch harness connector.
Disconnect the A/C-Heater Control Switch harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the A/C Request Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→ Check the A/C - Heater Control Switch Ground circuit for high
resistance. If it is OK, replace the A/C-Heater Control Switch.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Repair the A/C Request Signal circuit for an open.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the A/C High Pressure Switch harness connector.
Disconnect the ECM harness connectors.
Measure the resistance of the A/C High Pressure Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→ Replace and program the ECM in accordance with the Service
Information.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Repair the A/C High Pressure Signal circuit for an open.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
NOTE: Reconnect all connectors.

NOTE: If the A/C Clutch fuse is open, refer to the system schematics for all
circuits that are powered by the A/C Clutch fuse to determine the cause of
the blown fuse.
Turn the ignition off.
Remove the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay from the PDC.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the Fused B+ circuit in the PDC.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
All
Yes
→ Go To 10
No
→ Repair the Fused B+ circuit. Inspect fuse and replace as neces-
sary.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.

Turn the ignition off.
Install a substitute relay in place of the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay.
Turn the ignition on.
With the DRBIII
t, actuate the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay.
Does the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay cycle on and off?
All
Yes
→ Replace the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Go To 11

Turn the ignition off.
Remove the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay from the PDC.
Disconnect the A/C Compressor Clutch harness connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay
Output circuit.
Is the resistance above 1000 ohms?
All
Yes
→ Go To 12
No
→ Repair the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay Output circuit for a
short to ground. Inspect fuse and replace as necessary.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.

Turn the ignition off.
Remove the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay from the PDC.
Disconnect the A/C Compressor Clutch harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay Output circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→ Go To 13
No
→ Repair the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay Output circuit for an
open.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the A/C Compressor Clutch harness connector.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12-volts, check the A/C Compressor Clutch
Ground circuit.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
All
Yes
→ Replace the A/C Clutch in accordance with the Service Informa-
tion.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Repair the A/C Compressor Clutch Ground circuit for an open.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.

With the DRBIII
t, check for ECM DTCs.
Are any DTCs present?
All
Yes
→ Return to the symptom list and choose the symptom(s).
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Go To 2
2
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the A/C Compressor Clutch harness connector.
WARNING: WHEN THE ENGINE IS OPERATING, DO NOT STAND IN A
DIRECT LINE WITH THE FAN. DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS NEAR THE
PULLEYS, BELTS OR FAN. DO NOT WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING.
Start the engine and observe the A/C Compressor Clutch and Compressor.
Does the A/C Compressor run with the harness connector disconnected?
All
Yes
→ Replace the A/C Compressor Clutch in accordance with the
Service Information.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Go To 3
3
Turn the ignition off.
Remove the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay from the PDC.
Disconnect the A/C Compressor Clutch harness connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage of the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay Output circuit.
Is the voltage above 1.0 volt?
All
Yes
→ Repair the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay Output circuit for a
short to voltage.
Perform ROAD TEST VERIFICATION - VER-2.
No
→ Go To 4
