(3) Remove the instrument panel center trim bezel
and remove the two electrical connectors from the
back of the control head (Fig. 16) and (Fig. 17).
(4) From the back of the center trim bezel, remove
the six retaining screws from the heater – a/c control
head and remove from the bezel.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
INSTRUMENT PANEL AND PAD ASSEMBLY
REMOVAL
WARNING:
DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE NEG-

BEFORE BEGINNING ANY AIRBAG SYSTEM COM-
PONENT REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION PROCE-
DURE. THIS WILL DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM.
FAILURE
TO
DISCONNECT
BATTERY
COULD
RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT
AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY. ALLOW SYS-
TEM CAPACITOR TO DISCHARGE FOR 2 MINUTES
BEFORE REMOVING ANY AIRBAG COMPONENTS.
(1) Open hood and disconnect the negative battery
cable remote terminal from the remote battery post
(Fig. 18).
(2) Remove one allen screw to shifter knob.
(3) Remove left and right instrument panel end
covers.
(4) Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755), gently
pry up on shifter bezel, disconnect two wire connec-
tors , one illumination bulb socket and remove.
(5) Remove two screws from lower instrument
panel cover (outside end) and disconnect decklid
release switch wiring connector. Pull rearward on
lower instrument panel cover releasing clips. Remove
cable to brake release handle. Pull rearward and
remove cover from vehicle.
(6) On five passenger vehicles, use trim stick to gen-
tly remove center bezel. Disconnect wire harnesses
connected to hvac control and traction control switch.
(7) Remove bezel from vehicle.

(8) Remove two screws to left console side cover,
pull outboard and remove from vehicle.
(9) Lower glove box door. Remove two screws to
right console side cover, pull outboard and remove
from vehicle
(10) Remove two front bracket screws and two
screws inside console bin to remove console.
(11) Remove two nuts attaching center lower
instrument panel.
(12) Remove four bolts to steel reinforcement from
bottom of lower instrument panel cover and discon-
nect 16-way Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) from
steel reinforcement.
(13) Remove steering column from vehicle. Refer to
Group 19, Steering for Removal and Installation pro-
cedures.
(14) Remove under column duct section from vehi-
cle.
(15) Remove one screw to left floor duct/silencer
pad and remove from vehicle.
(16) Disconnect two harness connectors to the hvac
housing, the Airbag Control Module (ACM) and three
ground eyelets left of the floor tunnel near the bulk-
head.
(17) Using a trim stick, gently pry out on the left
and right A-pillar trim moldings.
(18) Using a trim stick, gently pry up on the
instrument panel top cover and remove toward the
rear of vehicle.
(19) Using a trim stick, gently pry out on left and
right scuff plates and remove from vehicle.
(20) Remove three screws to right side cowl panel
and remove from vehicle.
(21) Remove three screws to left side cowl panel
and remove from vehicle.
(22) Remove right side under dash silencer/pad.
(23) Disconnect the two right side harness connec-
tors to radio antenna and amplifier DIN cable.
(24) Disconnect the left side harness connectors to
junction block and Body Control Module (BCM).
(25) Disconnect the front wiper defrost grid wire
connector.
(26) Remove one instrument panel retaining screw
behind glove box.
(27) Remove twelve instrument panel retaining
screws
(28) Pull rearward on instrument panel.
(29) Make sure that all harnesses are free and
clear from snagging.
(30) With the help of an assistant, remove instru-
ment panel from vehicle and place on bench.
(31) If replacing instrument panel and pad assem-
bly, transfer all parts to new assembly.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
INSTRUMENT PANEL END COVERS – LEFT AND
RIGHT
REMOVAL
(1) Open the left door and pull on the access han-
dle and outlet to disengage the end cover clips. Fuse
diagram is located inside the left end cover. Fuse
Access is under the left end cover.
(2) Open the right door and remove the right end
cover by inserting a trim stick (special tool #C-4755),
between cap and instrument panel to disengage clips.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
INSTRUMENT PANEL FLOOR BIN
REMOVAL
(1) Remove one screw and one push pin to instru-
ment panel floor bin.
(2) Pull rearward and remove the floor bin.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER TRIM BEZEL
REMOVAL
(1) Open hood and disconnect the negative battery
cable remote terminal from the remote battery post
(Fig. 18).
(2) Remove ash receiver (if applicable).
(3) Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755), gently
pry out on center trim bezel. Disconnect wiring con-
nectors to HVAC controls, cigar lighter/auxiliary
power outlet and traction control switch.
(4) Remove instrument panel center trim bezel.
NOTE: The traction control switch, HVAC control
head and cigar lighter/auxiliary power outlet must
be transferred to new bezel if being replaced.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures
INSTRUMENT PANEL SILENCER/DUCT
REMOVAL
(1) Remove the push-in fastener under left end of
the instrument panel.
(2) Maneuver part off of the brake bracket stud
and center floor distribution duct.
(3) Remove the silencer/duct.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.

INSTRUMENT PANEL UPPER COVER
REMOVAL
(1)
Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755), pry
up each end of the top cover disengaging clips.
(2) Lift rear edge of the top cover using a trim
stick along the rear edge of the top cover.
(3) Slide top cover rearward to disengaging the
eight clips.
(4) Remove the upper cover from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
ODOMETER
The instrument cluster must be removed for Odom-
eter service. Refer to Instrument Cluster Removal
and Installation procedures.
REMOVAL
(1) Open hood and disconnect the negative battery
cable remote terminal from the remote battery post
(Fig. 18).
(2) Remove instrument cluster from vehicle. Refer
to procedures in this section.
(3) Remove

screws and remove the cover.
(4) Unplug connectors from printed circuit board.
(5) Remove cluster mask/lens from instrument
cluster. Refer to Mask/Lens Removal and Installation
procedures in this section.
(6) Carefully pull out subdial assembly from clus-
ter housing and remove.
(7) Remove two screws to Vacuum Fluorescent
(VF) display Odometer and remove from cluster.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
RADIO
Refer to Group 8F, Audio System for the proper
radio removal and installation procedures.
REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE
Refer to Group 8P, Power Door Locks for Remote
Keyless Entry Module Removal and Installation pro-
cedures.
STOP LAMP/SPEED CONTROL CUTOUT SWITCH
REMOVAL
(1) Open hood and disconnect the negative battery
cable remote terminal from the remote battery post
(Fig. 18).
(2) Remove the left under instrument panel silenc-
er/duct.
(3) Twist and pull the switch assembly rearward
from the brake bracket. After switch is free discon-
nect the wire connector and remove switch.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
SUBDIAL ASSEMBLY
The instrument cluster gauges are serviced as an
assembly. If replacement of one defective gauge is
required, the complete subdial assembly must be
replaced.
The instrument cluster must be removed for Sub-
dial Assembly service. Refer to Instrument Cluster
Removal and Installation procedures.
REMOVAL
(1) Open hood and disconnect the negative battery
cable remote terminal from the remote battery post
(Fig. 18).
(2) Remove instrument cluster from vehicle. Refer
to procedures in this section.
(3) Remove
five

back
cover
retaining
screws and remove the cover.
(4) Unplug connectors from printed circuit board.
(5) Remove cluster mask/lens from instrument
cluster. Refer to Mask/Lens Removal and Installation
procedures in this section.
(6) Carefully pull out subdial assembly from clus-
ter housing and remove.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH
REMOVAL
(1) Open hood and disconnect the negative battery
cable remote terminal from the remote battery post
(Fig. 18).
(2) Remove the instrument panel center trim
bezel. Refer to removal and installation procedure in
this section. Disconnect the Traction Control Switch
connector and remove.
(3) Press the tabs in at both sides of the switch
and remove the switch from the bezel.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
Check the switch for proper operation.
TRANSMISSION RANGE INDICATOR
The instrument cluster must be removed for Trans-
mission Range Indicator service. Refer to Instrument
Cluster Removal and Installation procedures.

TRIP RESET KNOB
The instrument cluster must be removed for Trip
Reset Knob service. Refer to Instrument Cluster
Removal and Installation procedures.
REMOVAL
(1) Open hood and disconnect the negative battery
cable remote terminal from the remote battery post
(Fig. 18).
(2) Remove instrument cluster from vehicle. Refer
to procedures in this section.
(3) Remove

screws and remove the cover.
(4) Remove nine screws to Printed Circuit Board
and remove.
(5) Gently pull Trip Reset Knob from mask/lens
assembly and remove.
INSTALLATION
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
