< DTC/CIRCUIT DIAGNOSIS >
FUEL LEVEL SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT
1.
PERFORM COMPONENT FUNCTION CHECK (1)
1.
Turn ignition switch OFF.
2.
Disconnect fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump connector.
3.
Connect variable resistor between harness connector terminals located on the vehicle side of the fuel
level sensor unit and fuel pump.
4.
Set variable resistor according to the resistance value shown in the following table and turn ignition switch
ON.
*: The specification value that a combination meter judges the number of the segment lighting of the fuel
gauge.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES
>> GO TO 2.
NO

PERFORM COMPONENT FUNCTION CHECK (2)
Check the fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump. Refer to
MWI-53, "Component Inspection"

YES

Perform the self-diagnosis mode of combination meter, and then check that the fuel gauge operates normally.

AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
The displayed ambient temperature on the information display may differ from the actual temperature because
it is a corrected value calculated from the ambient sensor signal by the combination meter. Refer to
"INFORMATION DISPLAY : System Description"
for details on the correction process.
DISTANCE TO EMPTY
The calculated distance to empty may differ from the actual distance to empty if the refueling amount is
approximately 15 (4 US gal, 3-1/4 Imp gal) or less. This is because the refuel control (moves the fuel gauge
needle quicker than normal judging that the driver is refueling the vehicle) is not performing.

Turn the lower part of the combination meter in the direction of
the arrow to remove the combination meter from the instrument
panel assembly.
CAUTION:
Never damage the front cover.
5.
Remove connector to remove the combination meter.
CAUTION:

INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Disassembly and Assembly

DISASSEMBLY
1.
Disengage the pawls (2 on the sides, 3 on the lower part) of the combination meter.
2.
Insert the removal tool into the clearance (in the order of A, B)
between the front cover and the meter control unit. Remove 4
pawls on the upper side of the front cover by turning the tool
while increasing the clearance.
CAUTION:
Wrap the removal tools with protective tape to prevent
scratches.
3.
Pull the front cover straight to remove it from the meter control unit assembly.
CAUTION:
Never damage the front cover.
Never touch the pointer and the crystalline liquid.
ASSEMBLY
Install the front cover straight to the meter control unit assembly and engage all the pawl.
CAUTION:
Never damage the front cover.

Inspection and Adjustment

INSPECTION
Lever Stroke
1.
Operate the parking brake lever with a force of 196 N (20 kg, 44 lb). Check that the lever stroke is within
the specified number of notches. (Check it by listening to the clicks of the ratchet.)
2.
When brake warning lamp turns ON, check that the lever stroke is within the specified number of notches.
(Check it by listening to the clicks of the ratchet.)
Inspect Components
• Check each component for installation condition such as looseness.
• Check the parking brake lever assembly for bend, damage and cracks. Replace if necessary.
• Check the cables and equalizer for wear, damage and cracks. Replace if necessary.
• Check the parking brake switch, and replace it if necessary. Refer to
BRC-103, "Component Inspection"
.
ADJUSTMENT
1.
Remove rear tires with power tool.
2.
Fix the disc rotor using wheel nut.
3.
Remove the console mask. Refer to
IP-24, "Removal and Installation"
4.
Remove the adjusting hole plug from the disc rotor. Turn the
adjuster (1) in the direction (A) as shown in the figure using a
suitable tool until the disc rotor is locked.
5.
Turn back the adjuster 7 notches from the locked position.
6.
Rotate the disc rotor to check that there is no drag. Install the
adjuster hole plug. Refer to
PB-10, "Inspection and Adjustment"
7.
Adjust the cable with the following procedure.
a.
Operate and maintain the parking brake lever with a force of 400 N (41 kg, 90 lb) for 15 minutes or more.
b.
Adjust the parking brake lever stroke by turning the adjusting nut
(1) with a socket wrench.
CAUTION:
Make sure to securely depress the brake pedal.
c.
Operate the parking brake lever with a force of 196 N (20 kg,
44lb). Check that the lever stroke is within the specified number
of notches. (Check it by listening to the clicks of the ratchet.)
d.
Rotate the disc rotor to check that there is no drag. Refer to
10, "Inspection and Adjustment"

Adjustment

Adjust parking brake lever stroke. Refer to
PB-3, "Inspection and Adjustment"
.
2.
Perform parking brake break-in (drag on) operation by driving vehicle under the following conditions:
• Drive forward
• Vehicle speed: Approx. 43 km/h (27 MPH) set (constant and forward)
• Parking brake operating force: 125 N (12.8 kg, 28.1 lb) set contact
• Time: Approx. 8 sec.
CAUTION:
To prevent lining from getting too hot, allow a cool off period of approximately 5 minutes after
every break-in operation.
3.
After the break-in procedure, check parking brake lever stroke of parking brake.
CAUTION:
If it is out of the specification, adjust again. Refer to
PB-3, "Inspection and Adjustment"
