FCA may not recognize the vehicle in
front even in the same lane.

The FCA system may produce the
warning message and the warning
alarm prematurely, or it may not
produce the warning message or
the warning alarm at all.

When driving on a curve, the driver
must maintain a safe braking dis-
tance, and if necessary, depress the
brake pedal to reduce your driving
speed in order to maintain a safe
distance.

While driving on a curve, the FCA
may recognize the vehicle in front in
the next lane.

If necessary, depress the brake
pedal to reduce your driving speed
in order to maintain a safe distance.

Also, when necessary depress the
accelerator pedal to prevent the
system from unnecessarily deceler-
ating your vehicle. Always check the
traffic conditions around the vehicle.

Driving on a slope

The FCA performance may be lim-
ited while driving upward or down-
ward on a slope and may not
recognize the vehicle in front in the
same lane.

It may produce the warning mes-
sage and the warning alarm prema-
turely, or it may not produce the
warning message and the warning
alarm at all.

When the FCA suddenly recognizes
the vehicle in front while passing
over a slope, you may experience
sharp deceleration.

Always keep your eyes forward
while driving upward or downward
on a slope, and, if necessary,
depress the brake pedal.

Changing lanes

When a vehicle changes lanes in
front of you, the FCA system may
not immediately detect the vehicle,
especially if the vehicle changes
lanes abruptly. In this case, you
must maintain a safe braking dis-
tance, and if necessary, depress the
brake pedal to reduce your driving
speed in order to maintain a safe

tain a safe braking distance, and if
necessary, depress the brake pedal
to reduce your driving speed in
order to maintain a safe distance.

Recognizing the vehicle

If the vehicle in front of you has
cargo that extends rearward from
the cab, or when the vehicle in front
of you has higher ground clearance,
additional special attention is
required.

The FCA system may not be able to
detect the cargo extending from the
vehicle. In these instances, you must
maintain a safe braking distance
from the rearmost object, and if
necessary, depress the brake pedal
to reduce your driving speed in
order to maintain distance.

WARNING

䳜 Do not use the Forward Collision-

Avoidance Assist (FCA) system
when towing a vehicle. Application
of the FCA system while towing
may adversely affect the safety
of your vehicle or the towing vehi-
cle.

䳜 Use extreme caution when the

vehicle in front of you has cargo
that extends rearward from the
cab, or when the vehicle in front
of you has higher ground clear-
ance.

䳜 The FCA system is designed to

detect and monitor the vehicle
ahead in the roadway through
camera recognition. It is not
designed to detect pedestrians,
bicycles, motorcycles, or smaller
wheeled objects such as luggage
bags, shopping carts, or strollers.

䳜 Never try to test the operation of

the FCA system. Doing so may
cause severe injury or death.

The FCA system is designed to
detect and monitor a vehicle ahead
or detect a pedestrian in the road-
way through radar signals and cam-
era recognition to warn the driver
that a collision is imminent, and if
necessary, apply emergency brak-
ing.

WARNING

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
(FCA) Limitations
The FCA system is a supplemental
system and is not a substitute for
safe driving practices.
It is the responsibility of the driver
to always check the speed and dis-
tance to the vehicle ahead and to be
prepared to apply the brakes.

WARNING

Take the following precautions
when using the forward Collision-
Avoidance assist (FCA) system:
䳜 This system is only a supplemen-

tal system and it is not intended
to, or does it replace the need for
extreme care and attention of the
driver. The sensing range and
objects detectable by the sensors

are limited. Pay attention to the
road conditions at all times.

䳜 NEVER drive too fast in accor-

dance with the road conditions or
while cornering.

䳜 Always drive cautiously to prevent

unexpected and sudden situations
from occurring. FCA does not stop
the vehicle completely and does
not avoid all collisions due to sys-
tem limitations.

Setting and activating the FCA

The driver can activate the FCA by
placing the ignition switch or START/
STOP button to the ON position and
by selecting:
䳜 Go to the 'User Settings in the

cluster', 'Driver Assistance', and
'Forward Collision-Avoidance
Assist'.

The FCA deactivates, when the
driver cancels the system setting.

The warning light illumi-
nates on the LCD display,
when you cancel the FCA

system. The driver can monitor the
FCA ON/OFF status on the LCD dis-
play. Also, the warning light illumi-
nates when the ESC (Electronic
Stability Control) is turned off (Trac-
tion & Stability control disabled.).

When the warning light remains ON
with the FCA activated, take your
vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer
and have the system checked.

Setting the initial warning activa-
tion time

The driver can select the initial
warning activation time in the User
Settings in the instrument cluster
LCD display.

The options for the initial Forward
Collision Warning include the follow-
ing:
䳜 NORMAL: When this condition is

selected, the initial Forward Colli-
sion Warning is activated nor-
mally.

䳜 LATE: When this condition is

selected, the initial Forward Colli-
sion Warning is activated later
than normal. This setting reduces
the amount of distance between
the vehicle or pedestrian ahead
before the initial warning occurs.
Select this condition only when
traffic is light, and you are driving
slowly.

Prerequisite for the FCA activation

The FCA will activate when the FCA
is selected on the LCD display, and
when the following prerequisites are
satisfied:
䳜 The ESC (Electronic Stability Con-

trol) is activated.

䳜 The driving speed is over 10 km/h

(6 mph). (The FCA only works
within a certain range of vehicle
speeds)

䳜 When the FCA recognizes a vehicle

or the pedestrian in front.

WARNING

The FCA may not recognize every
obstacle or provide warnings and
braking in every situation, so do not
rely on the FCA to stop the vehicle in
instances where the driver sees an
obstacle and has the ability to apply
the brakes.

䳜 The FCA automatically activates

upon placing the ignition switch or
START/STOP button to the ON
position. The driver can deactivate
the FCA by canceling the system
setting on the LCD display.

䳜 The FCA automatically deacti-

vates upon canceling the ESC.
When the ESC is canceled, the FCA
cannot be activated on the LCD
display.
The FCA warning light will illumi-
nate.

䳜 To avoid driver distractions, do

not attempt to set or cancel the
FCA while operating the vehicle.

FCA warning message and brake
control

The FCA system produces warning
messages, warning alarms, and
emergency braking based on the
level of risk of a frontal collision,
such as when a vehicle ahead sud-
denly brakes, or when the system
detects that a collision with a
pedestrian is imminent.

the LCD display with the warning
alarms.

Additionally, some vehicle system
intervention occurs by the engine
management system to help decel-
erate the vehicle.

The Vehicle may slow down slightly.
䳜 It will operate if the vehicle speed

is greater than 10 km/h (6 mph)
and less than or equal to 160 km/
h (100 mph) on a forward vehicle.
(Depending on the condition of
the vehicle ahead and the envi-
ronment surrounding it, the pos-
sible maximum operating speed
may be reduced.)

䳜 For pedestrians and cyclists, the

vehicle speed is greater than or
equal to 10 km/h (6 mph) and less
than 90 km/h (56 mph). (Depend-
ing on the condition of pedestri-
ans and bike riders and the
surrounding environment the
possible maximum operating
speed may be reduced.)
- If you select "Warning only", the

FCA system activates and pro-
duces only warning alarms in
accordance with the collision
risk levels. You should control
the brake directly because the
FCA system do not control the
brake.

Emergency braking (2nd warning)

Brake operation

In an urgent situation, the braking
system enters into the ready status
for prompt reaction to assist the
driver in depressing the brake pedal.
䳜 The FCA provides additional brak-

ing power for optimum braking
performance when the driver

depresses the brake pedal during
warning.

䳜 The braking control is automati-

cally deactivated when the driver
sharply depresses the accelera-
tor pedal, or when the driver
abruptly operates the steering
wheel.

䳜 The braking control is automati-

cally canceled when risk factors
disappear.

The driver should always exercise
caution when operating the vehicle,
even though there is no warning
message or warning alarm.

WARNING

The FCA cannot avoid all collisions
nor completely stop the vehicle
before collision. The driver has the
responsibility to drive safely and
control the vehicle.

WARNING

The FCA is a supplemental system
and cannot completely stop the
vehicle in all situations or avoid all
collisions. It is the responsibility of
the driver to safely drive and control
the vehicle.

WARNING

Never deliberately drive dangerously
to activate the system as such con-
duct increases the risk of an acci-
dent.

NOTICE

The FCA system assesses the risk of
a collision by monitoring several
variables such as the distance to the
vehicle/pedestrian ahead, the speed
of the vehicle/pedestrian ahead, and
the driver's operation of the vehicle.
Certain conditions such as inclement
weather and road conditions may
affect the operation of the FCA sys-
tem.
For the system operation, do not
attempt risky driving.

FCA front radar / Camera sensor

In order for the FCA system to
operate properly, always make sure
the sensor or sensor cover is clean
and free of dirt, snow, and debris.
Dirt, snow, or foreign substances on
the sensor or its external parts may
adversely affect the sensing perfor-
mance of the sensor.

NOTICE

䳜 Do not apply foreign objects such

as a bumper sticker or a bumper
guard near the radar sensor.
Doing so may adversely affect the
sensing performance of the radar.

䳜 Always keep the radar sensor and

over clean and free of dirt and
debris.

䳜 Use only soft clothes to wash the

vehicle. Do not spray pressurized
water directly on the sensor or
sensor cover.

䳜 Be careful not to apply unneces-

sary force on the radar sensor or
sensor cover. If the sensor is forc-

ibly moved out of proper align-
ment, the FCA system may not
operate correctly. In this case, a
warning message may not be dis-
played. Have the vehicle inspected
by an authorized Kia dealer.

䳜 If the front bumper becomes

damaged in the area around the
radar sensor, the FCA system
may not operate properly. In this
case, have your vehicle inspected
by an authorized Kia dealer.

䳜 Use only genuine parts to repair

or replace a damaged sensor or
sensor cover. Do not apply paint
to the sensor cover.

䳜 Do not tint the window or install

stickers or accessories around the
inside mirror where the camera is
installed.

䳜 Make sure the frontal camera

installation point does not get
wet.

䳜 Do not impact or remove any

radar/camera components.

䳜 Do not place reflective objects

(white paper or mirror etc.) on the
dashboard. The system may acti-
vate unnecessarily due to reflec-
tion of the sunlight.

䳜 Excessive audio system volume

may prevent occupants from
hearing the FCA system warning
alarm.

Warning message and warning light

When the sensor is covered or the
sensor lens is dirty with foreign
substances, such as snow or rain,
the FCA system may not be able to
detect vehicles or pedestrians.

In this case, a warning message
("Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
(FCA) system disabled. Radar
blocked") will appear to notify the
driver. Remove the foreign sub-
stances to allow the FCA system to
function normally.

Remove any dirt, snow, or debris
and clean the radar sensor cover
before operating the FCA system.

The FCA may not properly operate
in an area (e.g. open terrain), where
any vehicles or objects are not
detected after turning ON the vehi-
cle.

FCA malfunction

When the FCA is not working prop-

erly, the FCA warning light (

will illuminate and the warning mes-
sage will appear for a few seconds.

Type A

Type B

After the message disappears, the

master warning light (

) will illu-

minate. In this case, take your vehi-
cle to an authorized Kia dealer and
have the system checked.

The FCA system will also be deacti-
vated for the sake of driver's safety

when the ESC warning light comes
on. The FCA warning message will
appear at the same time, too. But
that doesn't necessarily mean the
malfunction of the FCA system.

Both FCA warning light and warning
message will disappear once the ESC
warning light issue is resolved.

WARNING

䳜 The FCA is only a supplemental

system for the driver's conve-
nience. It is the driver's responsi-
bility to control the vehicle
operation. Do not solely depend
on the FCA system. Rather, main-
tain a safe braking distance, and,
if necessary, depress the brake
pedal to reduce the driving speed
or stop the vehicle.

䳜 In certain instances and under

certain driving conditions, the FCA
system may activate uninten-
tionally. This initial warning mes-
sage appears on the LCD display
with a warning chime.
Also, due to sensing limitations, in
certain situations, the front radar
sensor or camera recognition sys-
tem may not detect the vehicle,
pedestrian or cyclist (if equipped)
ahead. The FCA system may not
activate and the warning mes-
sage will not be displayed.

䳜 The FCA may unnecessarily pro-

䳜 When there is a malfunction with

the FCA, the autonomous emer-
gency braking does not operate
upon detecting a collision risk
even with other braking systems
normally operating.

䳜 The FCA operates only for the

vehicle/pedestrian in front, while
driving forward. It does not oper-
ate for any animals or vehicles in
the opposite direction.

䳜 The FCA system may not activate

if the driver applies the brake
pedal before warning to avoid risk
of collision.

䳜 The FCA system does not operate

when the vehicle is in reverse.

䳜 The FCA system is not designed

to detect other objects on the
road such as animals.

䳜 The FCA system does not detect

vehicles in the opposite lane.

䳜 The FCA system does not detect

cross traffic vehicles that are
approaching.

䳜 The FCA system cannot detect

the driver approaching the side
view of a parked vehicle (for
example on a dead end street). In
these cases, you must maintain a
safe braking distance, and if nec-
essary, depress the brake pedal
to reduce the driving speed in
order to maintain a safe distance.

䳜 The FCA system may not activate

depending on road or driving con-
ditions.

䳜 The FCA system may not activate

to all types of vehicles.

Limitations of the FCA

The FCA system is designed to
monitor the vehicle ahead in the
roadway through radar signals and
camera recognition to warn the
driver that a collision is imminent,
and if necessary, apply emergency
braking.

In certain situations, the radar sen-
sor or the camera may not be able
to detect the vehicle ahead. In these
cases, the FCA system may not
operate normally. The driver must
pay careful attention in the follow-
ing situations where the FCA opera-
tion may be limited.

Limitations of the sensors

The sensor may be limited when:
䳜 The radar sensor or camera is

blocked with a foreign object or
debris.

䳜 The camera lens is contaminated

due to tinted, filmed or coated
windshield, damaged glass, or
stuck of foreign matter (sticker,

䳜 The vehicle in front is driving

erratically.

䳜 The vehicle is on unpaved or

uneven rough surfaces, or road
with sudden gradient changes.

䳜 The vehicle is driven near areas

containing metal substances as a
construction zone, railroad, etc.

䳜 The vehicle drives inside a build-

ing, such as a basement parking
lot.

䳜 The camera does not recognize

the entire vehicle in front.

䳜 The camera is damaged.
䳜 The brightness outside is too low

such as when the headlamps are
not on at night or the vehicle is
going through a tunnel.

䳜 A shadow is on the road by a

median strip, trees, etc.

䳜 The vehicle drives through a toll-

gate.

䳜 The rear part of the vehicle in

front is not fully visible.

䳜 Adverse road conditions cause

excessive vehicle vibrations while
driving.

䳜 The sensor recognition changes

suddenly when passing over a
speed bump.

䳜 The vehicle in front is moving ver-

tically to the driving direction.

䳜 The vehicle in front is stopped
