3. CHECK BRAKE DISC AND PARKING BRAKE SHOE LINING FOR PROPER CONTACT

a. Apply chalk to the inside surface of the disc. Then grind the brake shoe lining on the disc until full

contact is achieved.

If the drum and brake shoe lining do not have full contact, use a brake shoe grinder or replace the
brake shoe.

b. After the inspection, wipe the chalk off of the inside surface of the disc and lining surface.

REASSEMBLY

HINT:

Use the same procedures for the LH side and RH side.

The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

1. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ANCHOR BLOCK

a. Install the anchor block with the 2 nuts.

Torque: 86 N*m (877 kgf*cm, 63 ft.*lbf)

2. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the No. 3 parking brake cable with the bolt.

Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf)

3. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER LH

a. Apply high temperature grease to the parking brake shoe lever.

b. Install the parking brake shoe lever to the No. 3 parking brake cable.

4. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH

a. Apply high temperature grease to the areas of the backing plate that contact the shoe.

b. Using SST, install the No. 2 parking brake shoe with the shoe hold down spring pin, compression

spring and shoe hold down spring cup.

5. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH

a. Apply high temperature grease to the areas of the backing plate that contact the shoe.

b. Apply the high temperature grease to the areas of the shoe adjusting screw set shown in the

illustration below.

NOTE:

Carefully distinguish the parking brake shoe lever RH and LH.

c. Set the parking brake shoe and shoe adjuster screw set in place.

d. Connect the tension spring.

e. Using SST, install the shoe hold down spring pin, compression spring and shoe hold down spring

cup.

6. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING

a. Using SST, install the shoe return spring.
