1. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

a. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

b. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

c. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and the airbag cut off switch cylinder.

d. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

e. Turn the ignition switch ON.

f. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

g. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

h. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

i. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

j. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector "B".

k. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

After the ignition switch is turned OFF, the navigation system requires
approximately 90 seconds to record various types of memory and
settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch OFF, wait 90 seconds
or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery
terminal.

OK: Go to next step

2. INSPECT AIRBAG CUT-OFF SWITCH CYLINDER

a. Remove the airbag cut-off switch cylinder.

b. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

NG: REPLACE AIRBAG CUT-OFF SWITCH CYLINDER (See AIRBAG CUT-OFF SWITCH )

OK: Go to next step

3. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR

a. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor and the airbag cut off switch cylinder.

b. Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

c. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

d. Clear the DTCs stored in memory (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).

e. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

f. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

g. Check the DTCs (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).

Codes other than DTC B1651 maybe output at this time. but they are not related to this check.

DTC B1653/35: SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION

DESCRIPTION

The seat position airbag sensor circuit consists of the center airbag sensor and the seat position airbag sensor.

DTC B1653/35 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the seat position airbag sensor circuit.
