INSPECT ENGINE IDLING SPEED

a

Warm up the engine

b

When using the Techstream:

1

Connect the Techstream to the DLC3

2

Enter the following menus:

Select: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Data List/All Data/Engine Speed

3

Inspect the engine idling speed

Standard idling speed: 650 to 750 rpm (transmission in neutral position and A/C switch
OFF)

c

When not using the Techstream:

1

Using SST, connect terminal 9 (TAC) of the DLC3

SST 09843-18030

2

Race the engine at 2500 rpm for approximately 90 seconds

3

Inspect the engine idling speed

Standard idling speed: 650 to 750 rpm (transmission in neutral position and A/C switch

NOTE:

Turn all the electrical systems OFF.

Perform the inspection when the cooling fan motor is turned OFF.

q

Inspect the cylinder compression pressure

1

Insert SST (compression gauge) into the spark plug hole (Procedure "A")

SST 09992-00500

2

While cranking the engine, measure the compression pressure (Procedure "B")

Compression pressure: 1300 kPa (13.3 kgf/cm

2

, 189 psi)

Minimum pressure: 1000 kPa (10.2 kgf/cm

2

, 145 psi)

Difference between each cylinder: 100 kPa (1.0 kgf/cm

2

, 15 psi)

HINT:

Use a fully-charged battery so that the engine speed can be increased to 250 rpm or
more

Measure the compression in as short a time as possible

3

Repeat procedures "A" and "B" for each cylinder

4

If the cylinder compression is low, pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder
