Inspect the holding coil

Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

If the result is not as specified, replace the magnet starter switch assembly

REASSEMBLY

INSTALL STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY

a

Apply grease to the bearings, and install it to the starter yoke

INSTALL STARTER BRUSH HOLDER ASSEMBLY

a

Place the brush holder on the armature

b

Using a screwdriver, install the 4 brushes

Tester Connection

Condition Specified Condition

Terminal 50 - Switch body Always

Below 2 ohms

NOTE:

Check that the positive (+) lead wires are not grounded.

Install a new O-ring to the groove of the starter yoke

Install the end frame with the 2 screws

Torque: 3.8 N*m (39 kgf*cm, 34 in.*lbf)

INSTALL MAGNET STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

a

Apply grease to the steel ball, and install it to the clutch shaft hole

Apply grease to the return spring, clutch roller, retainer and idler gear

Insert the return spring into the magnet starter switch hole

Install the starter clutch, idler gear, retainer and clutch roller

e

Install the starter housing to the magnet starter switch with the 2 screws

Torque: 9.3 N*m (95 kgf*cm, 82 in.*lbf)

INSTALL STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY

a

Install a new O-ring to the groove of the starter yoke

b

Align the key of the starter yoke with the groove of the magnet starter switch

Install the starter yoke and armature with the 2 bolts

Torque: 9.3 N*m (95 kgf*cm, 82 in.*lbf)

Connect the lead wire to the magnet switch terminal with the nut

Torque: 5.9 N*m (60 kgf*cm, 52 in.*lbf)

INSTALLATION

INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY

a

Install the starter with the 2 bolts

Torque: 58 N*m (591 kgf*cm, 43 ft.*lbf)

Connect the starter connector

c

Connect the starter wire with the nut

Torque: 9.8 N*m (100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf)

Install the terminal cap

CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

NOTE:

Some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (see
INITIALIZATION ).
