Ford F150 Pickup. Instruction — part 1546

continue diagnosis as directed. If voltage at PDJB FP PWR pin is not greater than 10.5 volts when the
outputs are commanded on, fuel pump relay contacts are always open, or there is an open circuit in PDJB
between B+ supply and FPM splice. Replace FP relay/PDJB.

110) For Continuous Memory Only DTC P0230 (Applications With FP Relay Soldered On PDJB
Circuit Board): Check Fuel Pump Primary Circuits

DTC P0230 is set when FP output is commanded ON (grounded) and excessive current draw is detected
on FP circuit; or when FP output is commanded OFF, voltage is not detected on FP circuit (PCM expects
VPWR voltage on FP circuit to fuel pump relay coil). Possible causes are:

z

Open or shorted Fuel Pump (FP) circuit.

z

Open VPWR circuit to fuel pump relay.

z

Faulty fuel pump relay.

z

Faulty PCM.

Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait 5 seconds. Using scan tool, access FPF PID. The FPF PID will
indicate no fault (or NO), indicating that the PCM detects VPWR voltage through the fuel pump relay
coil and FP circuit. Observe the FPF PID for an indication of a fault while completing the following (the
FPF PID will indicate a fault (or YES), when an open is detected). Shake, wiggle, bend the FP circuit
between the PCM and the PDJB. Lightly tap the fuel pump relay/PDJB (to simulate road shock). Turn
ignition switch to OFF position. Inspect the PCM and applicable PDJB connectors for corrosion,
damaged pins. If a fault indicated, isolate fault and repair as necessary. If a fault is not indicated, unable
to duplicate or identify fault at this time. Go to TEST Z, step 1).

115) For Continuous Memory Only DTC P0231 (Applications With FP Relay Soldered On PDJB
Circuit Board): Check Fuel Pump Secondary Circuits In PDJB

DTC P0231 indicates PCM commanded fuel pump ON and B+ voltage is not detected on Fuel Pump
Monitor (FPM) circuit. Possible causes are:

z

Open B+ circuit to fuel pump relay.

z

Open FP PWR circuit between fuel pump relay and connection to FPM Circuit.

z

Faulty fuel pump relay.

z

Faulty PCM (Engine will start).

z

On F150 Lightning 5.4L SC, faulty Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch, IFS switch relay, or concern
with related wiring.

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect PDJB connector that contains the FP PWR circuit
(connector L4 for Expedition and Navigator, or connector "A" for F-Series and Excursion). Connect

NOTE:

A break in step numbering sequence occurs at this point. Procedure skips
from step 107) to step 110). No test procedures have been omitted.

DVOM (or non powered test light) between FP PWR circuit pin of PDJB and ground. Turn ignition
switch to ON position. Using scan tool, access Output Test Mode on scan tool. Command outputs on.
Observe DVOM/test light for an indication of a fault while performing the following (voltage will drop
suddenly when a fault is detected). Be aware that Output Test Mode will turn off the fuel pump after a
calibrated time. If this happens, again command the outputs on to continue testing. Lightly shake, wiggle
the fuel pump fuse (to simulate road shock). Lightly tap the fuel pump relay/PDJB (to simulate road
shock). If a fault indicated, isolate fault and repair as necessary. If a fault is not indicated, unable to
duplicate or identify fault at this time. Go to TEST Z, step 1).

120) For Continuous Memory Only DTC P0232: Check Fuel Pump Secondary Circuits

If Continuous Memory DTC P0230 is also present, go to step

110)

. Be aware that P0232 could be set if

the IFS switch was tripped then reset, or if power was supplied to the FP PWR circuit when the PCM
expected the fuel pump to be off (i.e. fuel pump prime procedure). DTC P0232 indicates that PCM
detected high FPM circuit voltage when fuel pump was commanded OFF. Possible causes are:

z

Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch open or not reset.

z

Open circuit between fuel pump and FPM connection to FP PWR circuit.

z

Poor fuel pump ground.

z

Fuel pump internally open.

z

Fuel pump secondary circuits shorted to PWR.

z

Fuel pump relay contacts always closed.

z

Open FPM circuit between PCM and connection to FP PWR circuit.

z

Faulty low speed fuel pump relay or related circuits (F150 Lightning 5.4L SC).

z

Faulty PCM (Engine will start).

Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, access FPM PID. Observe the FPM PID for an
indication of a fault while completing the following (the FPM PID will turn ON when an open or short to
power is detected): Shake, wiggle, bend the FP PWR circuit between the FP PWR pin at the PDJB and
the fuel pump. Shake, wiggle, bend the fuel pump ground circuit from the fuel pump to ground. Shake,
wiggle, bend the FPM circuit between the PDJB and the PCM. Lightly tap the fuel pump, inertia fuel
shutoff switch and fuel pump relay/PDJB to simulate road shock. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. If
a fault was indicated/found, isolate fault and repair as necessary. If a fault was not indicated/found,
unable to duplicate or identify fault at this time. Go to TEST Z, step 1).

NOTE:

A break in step numbering sequence occurs at this point. Procedure skips
from step 115) to step 120). No test procedures have been omitted.

NOTE:

After each service or repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all
components. Clear DTCs and repeat QUICK TEST procedures to ensure all EEC-
V systems are working properly and DTCs are no longer present.
