Chery A15. Manual — part 146
Moving parts of compressor are lubricated by oil splashed or contained in coolant: cooling oil
will be splashed all around by rotating swashplate when compressor is working. In addition,
the intersolubility between coolant and oil allows coolant to carry some cooling oil when
flowing into compressor to lubricate interior moving parts.
Installation of Compressor
Fix compressor onto bracket with two bolts (M10*110), tightening torque: 45±5N·m.
(II). Condenser
Condenser works to cool and condense the coolant vapor exhausted by compressor to release
the heat and liquefy the coolant.
Installation of Condenser
Fix condenser on water tank with two tapping screws, and fit corresponding bush and washer
on screws, tightening torque: 6±0.6N·m;
Fix condenser bracket on front cross beam with three bolts (M6) and washers, tightening
torque: 1.5±0.15N·m;
Fit the assembled condenser and radiator on corresponding fixing holes;
Fit rubber washers and cushion blocks, and fix condenser on front cross beam with two nuts,
tightening torque: 1.5±0.15N·m.
Chery A15 car uses Serpentine condenser, as the figure shows. Condenser and engine radiator
are fixed side by side, and an axial fan driven by a DC motor is installed behind for forced
cooling purpose of condenser and radiator.
(III). Coolant Tank
Coolant tank is located below condenser (outlet of condenser). The structure is shown in the
figure below:
Coolant tank is a pressure container for coolant, which delivers liquid coolant to expansion
valve at a certain flow rate. Coolant tank strainer filtrates impurities in coolant, and the
bibulous monox desiccant filled in dryer absorbs water content in coolant. Besides, a fusible
plug is installed on coolant tank, which will be fused in case that the temperature and pressure
in cooling system and coolant tank sharply increase to a certain degree due to poor radiation
of condenser or other reasons to drain some high-pressure and high-temperature coolant, so as
to protect cooling system.
(IV). Expansion Valve and Pressure Switch
1). Expansion Valve
The conventional thermo-expansion valve used in Chery A15 car is fixed on inlet/outlet tube
of evaporator, as shown in the figure below.
The temperature sensor in expansion valve adjusts ball valve opening according to coolant
temperature at evaporator outlet to control coolant flow rate.
2). Pressure Switch
Chery A15 uses dual-pressure (high/low pressure) four-wire switch as the air conditioning
pressure switch. The switch is fitted on high pressure pipe in front of expansion valve, closing
pressure for low pressure switch is 50PSI, and 220PSI for high pressure switch.
(V). Evaporator
Chery A15 uses tube-fin type evaporator, which is combined in the air conditioner assembly
under dashboard.
Evaporator has a reverse function with condenser: liquid coolant expanded by expansion
valve absorbs heat in evaporator to be gassified to coolant gas and then reenters compressor
for circulation.
Installation of Evaporator
Assemble the evaporator: fit the four bolts and water inlet and outlet pipes in the
corresponding holes on front boarding;
Fix evaporator with one bolt (M8*25) and four nuts respectively on steering cross beam and
front boarding, tightening torque: 3.5±0.2N·m;
Fix control panel on dashboard with four tapping screws, and then fit decorative plate for
control panel, tightening torque: 1.5±0.2N·m;
Connect the parts connecting evaporator with front compartment.
(VI). Evaporator Temperature Sensor (Thermoregulator)
The evaporator temperature sensor is a temperature-sensitive tube mechanical
thermoregulator, whose working temperature is generally set to be off above 4ºC and on
below 3ºC. The mounting position is right below the evaporator, as the figure shows.

(VII) Tightening Torque for Air Conditioning Pipeline Fasteners
Hexagon bolt fixed at compressor (M10): 30N.m;
Hexagon bolt fixed at expansion valve (M6): 7 N.m;
Nut connecting and tightening condenser inlet pipe: 32 N.m;
Nut connecting and tightening condenser outlet pipe:11.9~13 N.m.
Section Twelve: Cooling System Leakage Detection
Three ways to detect coolant leakage in cooling system:
electronic leakage detector, soapy water and halogen detector
lamp.
(I). Electronic Leakage Detector
Connect power plug 2 of electronic leakage detector 1 with
power supply, place the detecting head 3 at a distance of 3mm
away from test point and move it slowly (30mm/s), as the
figure shows. The detector will beep if leakage is detected.
