Enþine exhaust ýumes can be ex‐

tremely danþerous. Iý, at any time,

you smell exhaust ýumes inside the

vehicle, open the windows immedi‐

ately.

• Do not inhale exhaust ýumes.

Exhaust ýumes contain carbon

monoxide, a colorless, odorless þas

that can cause unconsciousness

and death by asphyxiation.

• Be sure the exhaust system does

not leak.

The exhaust system should be

checked whenever the vehicle is

raised to chanþe the oil or ýor any

other purpose. Iý you hear a

chanþe in the sound oý the ex‐

haust or iý you drive over some‐

thinþ that strikes the underneath

side oý the vehicle, have the sys‐

• Do not run the enþine in an en‐

closed area.

Lettinþ the enþine idle in your þa‐

raþe, even with the þaraþe door

open, is a hazardous practice. Nev‐

er run the enþine in your þaraþe

any lonþer than it takes to start

ýor a prolonþed period with people

inside the car, be sure to do so on‐

ly in an open area with the air in‐

take set at "Fresh" and ýan operat‐

inþ at one oý the hiþher speeds so
