Q
Situations in which the system may not
operate properly
O
In some situations such as the following, a
vehicle may not be detected by the radar
sensor and front camera, preventing the
system from operating properly:
• If an oncoming vehicle is approaching
your vehicle
• If a vehicle ahead is a motorcycle or bicy-
cle
• When approaching the side or front of a
vehicle
• If a preceding vehicle has a small rear
end, such as an unloaded truck
• If a preceding vehicle has a low rear end,
such as a low bed trailer
• If a vehicle ahead is carrying a load which
protrudes past its rear bumper
• If a vehicle ahead has extremely high
ground clearance
• If a vehicle ahead is irregularly shaped,
such as a tractor or side car
• If the sun or other light is shining directly
on a vehicle ahead
• If a vehicle cuts in front of your vehicle or
emerges from beside a vehicle
• If a vehicle ahead makes an abrupt
maneuver (such as sudden swerving,
acceleration or deceleration)
• When suddenly cutting behind a preced-
ing vehicle
• When a vehicle ahead is not directly in
front of your vehicle
212
4-5. Using the driving support systems
• When driving in inclement weather such
as heavy rain, fog, snow or a sandstorm

era
• The vehicle is wobbling.
• The vehicle is being driven at extremely
high speeds.
• When driving on a hill
• If the radar sensor or front camera is mis-
aligned
O
In some situations such as the following,
sufficient braking force may not be
obtained, preventing the system from
performing properly:
• If the braking functions cannot operate to
their full extent, such as when the brake
parts are extremely cold, extremely hot,
or wet
• If the vehicle is not properly maintained
(brakes or tires are excessively worn,
improper tire inflation pressure, etc.)
• When the vehicle is being driven on a
gravel road or other slippery surface
O
Some pedestrians such as the following
may not be detected by the radar sensor
and front camera, preventing the system
from operating properly
*2
:
• Pedestrians shorter than approximately 1
m (3.2 ft.) or taller than approximately 2
m (6.5 ft.)
• Pedestrians wearing oversized clothing
(a rain coat, long skirt, etc.), making their
silhouette obscure
• Pedestrians who are carrying large bag-
gage, holding an umbrella, etc., hiding
part of their body
• Pedestrians who are bending forward or
squatting
• Pedestrians who are pushing a stroller,
wheelchair, bicycle or other vehicle
• Groups of pedestrians which are close
together
• Pedestrians who are wearing white and
look extremely bright
• Pedestrians in the dark, such as at night
or while in a tunnel
• Pedestrians whose clothing appears to
be nearly the same color or brightness as
their surroundings
• Pedestrians near walls, fences, guard-
rails, or large objects
• Pedestrians who are on a metal object
(manhole cover, steel plate, etc.) on the
road
• Pedestrians who are walking fast
• Pedestrians who are changing speed
abruptly
• Pedestrians running out from behind a
vehicle or a large object
• Pedestrians who are extremely close to
the side of the vehicle (outside rear view
mirror, etc.)
*2

vehicle might depart from its lane, a
warning is displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display, and either the warning
buzzer sounds to alert the driver.
LKA (Lane-Keeping Assist)
*
When driving on highways and
freeways with white or yellow lines,
this function alerts the driver when
the vehicle might depart from its
lane and provides assistance by
operating the steering wheel to
keep the vehicle in its lane. Further-
more, the system also provides
steering assistance when dynamic
radar cruise control with full-speed
range is operating to keep the vehi-
cle in its lane.
The LKA system recognizes visible
white or yellow lines with the front
camera on the upper portion of the
front windshield.

the surrounding road situation and care-
fully operate the steering wheel to move
the vehicle back to the center of the lane.
Q
Steering assist function
When the system determines that the
vehicle might depart from its lane, the
system provides assistance as neces-
sary by operating the steering wheel in
small amounts for a short period of
time to keep the vehicle in its lane.
For Israel: If the system detects that the
steering wheel has not been operated for a
fixed amount of time or the steering wheel
is not being firmly gripped, a warning is dis-
played on the multi-information display
and the warning buzzer sounds.
Except for Israel: If the system detects that
the steering wheel has not been operated
for a fixed amount of time or the steering
wheel is not being firmly gripped, a warn-
ing is displayed on the multi-information
display and the function is temporarily can-
celed.
Q
Vehicle sway warning function
When the vehicle is swaying or
appears as if it may depart from its lane
multiple times, the warning buzzer
sounds and a message is displayed on

Q
Lane centering function
This function is linked with radar cruise
control and provides the required
assistance by operating the steering
wheel to keep the vehicle in its current
lane.
When radar cruise control is not operat-
ing, the lane centering function does not
operate.
For Israel: If the system detects that the
steering wheel has not been operated for a
fixed amount of time or the steering wheel
is not being firmly gripped, a warning is dis-
played on the multi-information display
and the warning buzzer sounds.
Except for Israel: If the system detects that
the steering wheel has not been operated
for a fixed amount of time or the steering
wheel is not being firmly gripped, a warn-
ing is displayed on the multi-information
display and the function is temporarily can-
celed.
WARNING
Q
Before using LKA system
Do not rely solely upon the LKA system.
The LKA system does not automatically
drive the vehicle or reduce the amount of
attention that must be paid to the area in
front of the vehicle. The driver must
always assume full responsibility for driv-
ing safely by paying careful attention to
the surrounding conditions and operat-
ing the steering wheel to correct the path
of the vehicle. Also, the driver must take
adequate breaks when fatigued, such as
from driving for a long period of time.
Failure to perform appropriate driving
operations and pay careful attention may
lead to an accident, resulting in death or
serious injury.
Q
To avoid operating LKA system by
mistake
When not using the LKA system, use the
LKA switch to turn the system off.
216
4-5. Using the driving support systems

*
: If equipped
After the front camera recognizes a
sign, it is displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display when the vehicle passes
the sign.
When the driving assist system
information is selected, a maximum
of 3 signs can be displayed.
(
P.96)
When other than the driving assist
system information is selected, a
speed limit sign or an all canceled
sign can be displayed. (
P.96)
A no overtaking sign and a speed limit sign
with supplemental mark are not displayed.
However, if signs other than speed limit
signs are recognized, they are mentioned
in a stack under the current speed limit
sign.
RSA (Road Sign Assist)
*
RSA recognizes specific road signs
using the front camera
and pro-
vides information to the driver via
the multi-information display.
If the system judges that the vehicle
is being driven over the speed limit,
performing prohibited actions, etc.
in relation to the recognized road
signs, it alerts the driver using a
warning display and warning
buzzer

.
*
: This setting needs to be customized.
WARNING
Q
Before using the RSA
Do not rely solely upon the RSA system.
RSA is a system which supports the
driver by providing information, but it is
not a replacement for a driver’s own
vision and awareness. Drive safely by
always paying careful attention to the
traffic rules.
Inappropriate or negligent driving could
lead to an unexpected accident.

4-5. Using the driving support systems
In the following situations, the RSA sys-
tem alerts the driver using a warning
display.
When the vehicle speed exceeds
the speed warning threshold
applied to the speed limit of the sign
displayed on the multi-information
display, the sign color becomes
inverted.
If it is detected that your vehicle is
overtaking when a no overtaking
sign is displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display, the sign flashes.
Vehicles with navigation system:
When the RSA system recognizes a
no-entry sign and detects that the
vehicle has entered a no-entry area
based on the map information of the
navigation system, the no-entry sign
flashes.
Depending on the situation, traffic
environment (traffic direction, speed,
unit) may be detected incorrectly and a
warning display may not operate prop-
erly.
Q
Automatic turn-off of RSA sign display
One or more signs automatically turn off in
the following situations.
O
A new sign is not recognized for a certain
distance.
O
The road changes due to a left or right
turn, etc.
Q
Conditions in which the function may
not operate or detect correctly
In the following situations, RSA does not
operate normally and may not recognize
signs, display the incorrect sign, etc. How-
ever, this does not indicate a malfunction.
O
The front camera is misaligned due to a
strong impact being applied to the sen-
sor, etc.
O
Dirt, snow, stickers, etc., are on the wind-
shield near the front camera.
O
In inclement weather such as heavy rain,
fog, snow or sand storms
O
Light from an oncoming vehicle, the sun,
etc. enters the front camera.
O
The sign is dirty, faded, tilted or bent, and
if an electronic sign, the contrast is poor.
O
All or part of the sign is hidden by the
leaves of a tree, a pole, etc.
O
The sign is only visible to the front camera
for a short amount of time.
O
The driving scene (turning, lane change,
etc.) is judged incorrectly.
O
Even if it is a sign not appropriate for the
currently traveled lane, such a sign exists
directly after a freeway branches, or in an
adjacent lane just before merging.
O
Stickers are attached to the rear of the
preceding vehicle.
O
A sign resembling a system compatible
sign is recognized.
O
The vehicle is driven in a country with a
different direction of traffic.
O
Side road speed signs may be detected
and displayed (if positioned in sight of the
front camera) while the vehicle is travel-
ing on the main road.
O
Roundabout exit road speed signs may
be detected and displayed (if positioned
in sight of the front camera) while travel-
ing on a roundabout.
O
Vehicles without navigation system: The
speed information displayed on the
meter and that displayed on the naviga-
tion system may be different due to the
navigation system using map data.
Q

of the preceding vehicle even if the
accelerator pedal is not depressed.
In constant speed control mode,
the vehicle runs at a fixed speed.
Use the dynamic radar cruise con-
trol with full-speed range on free-
ways and highways.

Q
Before using dynamic radar cruise
control with full-speed range
O
Driving safely is the sole responsibility
of the driver. Do not rely solely on the
system, and drive safely by always pay-
ing careful attention to your surround-
ings.
O
The dynamic radar cruise control with
full-speed range provides driving
assistance to reduce the driver’s bur-
den. However, there are limitations to
the assistance provided.
Read the following conditions care-
fully. Do not overly rely on this system
and always drive carefully.
• When the sensor may not be correctly
detecting the vehicle ahead:

O
Set the speed appropriately depend-
ing on the speed limit, traffic flow, road
conditions, weather conditions, etc.
The driver is responsible for checking
the set speed.
O
Even when the system is functioning
normally, the condition of the preced-
ing vehicle as detected by the system
may differ from the condition
observed by the driver. Therefore, the
driver must always remain alert, assess
the danger of each situation and drive
safely. Relying on this system or
assuming the system ensures safety
while driving can lead to an accident,
resulting in death or serious injury.
O
Switch the dynamic radar cruise con-
trol with full-speed range off using the
cruise control main switch when not in
use.
Q
Cautions regarding the driving assist
systems
Observe the following precautions, as
there are limitations to the assistance
provided by the system.
Failure to do so may cause an accident
resulting in death or serious injury.
O
Assisting the driver to measure follow-
ing distance
The dynamic radar cruise control with
full-speed range is only intended to help
the driver in determining the following
distance between the driver’s own vehi-
cle and a designated vehicle traveling
ahead. It is not a mechanism that allows
careless or inattentive driving, and it is
not a system that can assist the driver in
low-visibility conditions. It is still neces-
sary for driver to pay close attention to
the vehicle’s surroundings.
