Function

The glass of the inside rearview mirror (A67) can be electro-chromatically dimmed. The mirror glass between
the reflector and the glass cover contains a layer of electrolyte gel. The light transmission ratio of this gel
changes when a voltage is applied to it.

The light hitting the surface of the mirror is more or less reflected due to the variable of the actuation voltage.

The actuation voltage is controlled by the electronic circuitry in the inside rearview mirror. This is
accomplished depending on the ambient light and the light hitting the mirror.

The two input parameters are detected by the mirror dimming to rear sensor (A67h2) in the mirror housing
(rear) and by the mirror dimming forward sensor (A67h1) in the mirror glass of the inside rearview mirror
(A67).

The inside rearview mirror unit (A67) also acts as the master for the outside mirror dimming function

(driver's side).

Cigarette lighter not fully
seated, causing ashtray housing
to jam when closed.

It is NOT necessary to replace the complete ashtray

housing.
1 Using a long wedge, slide under edge of ashtray cover
and pry up and out to remove. Support cover to prevent
breaking tabs from abrupt release.

Start from lower left corner (arrow).

2 Push inward on head of cigarette lighter until lighter
snaps into proper position.

3 Reinstall front ashtray cover.

4 Verify proper operation.

holder, the illuminated mirror looses contact.

To use the illuminated mirror the sun

visor must remain arrested in the holder
The illuminated mirror does not function
as long as the sun visor is outside the
holder.

This malfunction is frequently incorrectly

diagnosed as a defective lead or sun visor
contact fault.

The sun visor and illuminated mirror

replaced.
