Check the VSA converter unit:
1. Substitute a known-good VSA
converter unit.
2. Connect all of disconnected
connector.
3. Clear the DTC.
4. Test drive the vehicle.
5. Verify the DTC.
Is the DTC 86 indicated?
Replace the VSA converter unit.
Replace the VSA modulator-
control unit.

DTC 88: Fl Communication
Check for a short to body ground
in the SDL circuits:
1. Disconnect the PCM connec-
tor E (26P) and the VSA con-
verter unit 26P connector.
2. Check for continuity between
body ground and the VSA
converter unit 26P connector
terminal No. 9 and No. 11
individually.
Are there continuity?
Check for an open in the SDL cir-
cuits:
1. Check for continuity between
the VSA converter unit 26P
connector terminal No. 9 and
the PCM connector E (26P)
terminal No. 20.
2. Check for continuity between
the VSA converter unit 26P
connector terminal No.11 and
the PCM connector E (26P)
terminal No. 19.
Are there continuity?
Check the VSA converter unit:
1. Substitute a known-good VSA
converter unit.
2. Connect all of disconnect con-
nectors.
3. Clear the DTC.
4. Test-drive the vehicle.
5. Verify the DTC.
Is DTC 88 indicated?
Replace the PCM.
VSA CONVERTER 26P CONNECTOR
Wire side of female terminals
PCM CONNECTOR E (26P)
Repair open in the wire between
the PCM and the VSA converter
unit.
Wire side of female terminals
Replace the VSA converter unit.
Repair short to body ground in
the wire between the PCM and
the VSA converter unit.

DTC 92: VSA Converter Unit
Check for an open in the IG1 cir-
cuit:
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
2. Measure the voltage between
the VSA converter unit 26P
connector terminal No. 26
and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
Check for an open in the LG1 cir-
cuit:
Measure the voltage between the
VSA converter unit 26P connec-
tor terminal No. 26 and No. 1.
Is there battery voltage?
Check for an open in the CAN cir-
cuits (converter side):
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Check for continuity between
the VSA control unit 42P con-
nector terminal No. 24 and
the VSA converter unit 26P
connector terminal No. 18.
3. Check for continuity between
the VSA control unit 42P con-
nector terminal No. 40 and
the VSA converter unit 26P
connector terminal No. 19.
Is there continuity?
Check for an open in the CAN cir-
cuit (steering angle sensor side):
1. Check for continuity between
the VSA control unit 42P con-
nector terminal No. 24 and
the steering angle sensor 4P
connector terminal No. 2.
2. Check for continuity between
the VSA control unit 42P con-
nector terminal No. 40 and
the steering angle sensor 4P
connector terminal No. 3.
Is there continuity?
VSA CONVERTER UNIT 26P CONNECTOR
Repair open in the wire between
the under-dash fuse/relay box
and the VSA converter unit.
IG1 (BLK/YEL)
Wire side of female terminals
Repair open in the wire
between the VSA converter
unit and body ground.
Repair poor ground (G101).
VSA CONTROL UNIT 42P CONNECTOR
Wire side of female terminals
Repair open in the wire between
the VSA control unit and the
VSA converter unit.
STEERING ANGLE SENSOR
4P CONNECTOR
Repair open in the wire between
the VSA control unit and the
steering angle sensor.

The system is OK at this time.
Replace the VSA converter unit.
Replace the VSA modulator-
control unit.
Is DTC 92 indicated?
Check the VSA converter unit:

4. Test drive the vehicle.

Is DTC 92 indicated?
Problem verification:
1. Connect all of disconnected
connector.
2. Clear the DTC.
