Troubleshooting Flowchart
NOTE:
Check the vacuum hoses and lines for damage and proper connections.
Refer to the Troubleshooting Procedures (see
).
The engine vibrates excessively
when idling.
Check Idle Speed:
Warm up engine to normal oper-
ating temperature (the cooling
fan comes on 2 times).
Is the idle speed less than
700 rpm?
Adjust the idle speed (see
).
Check the Engine Mount Control
System:
1. Fully depress the brake pedal.
2. With the transmission in gear,
have an assistant disconnect
and reconnect the IMRC/
engine mount control solenoid
valve assembly 6P connector.
Is there a noticeable change in
idle smoothness when the
IMRC/engine mount control
solenoid valve assembly 6P con-
nector is disconnected?
Reconnect the IMRC/engine
mount control solenoid valve
assembly 6P connector. The
engine mount control system is
OK.
IMRC/ENGINE MOUNT
CONTROL SOLENOID
VALVE ASSEMBLY 6P
CONNECTOR
Test the Engine Mount Control
Solenoid Valve Wire:
1. Shift to or position.
2. Disconnect the IMRC/engine
mount control solenoid valve
assembly 6P connector.
3. Measure voltage between the
No.3 t e r m i n a l and body
ground.
Is there battery voltage?
Repair open in BLK/YEL wire
between the IMRC/engine
mount control solenoid valve
assembly 6P connector and PCM
fuse (20 A).
Wire side of female
terminals
Test the Engine Mount Control
Solenoid Valve Wire:
Measure voltage between the
No. 3 and No. 6 terminals.
Is there battery voltage?
NO
— Repair open in LT GRN wire
between PCM (A17) and the
IMRC/engine mount control
solenoid valve assembly 6P
connector.
— If the wire is OK, substitute a
known-good PCM and recheck.

CONNECTOR
Test the Engine Mount Control
Solenoid Valve Wire:
1. Raise the engine speed above
1,000 rpm.
2. Measure voltage between the
No. 3 and No. 6 terminals.
Is there battery voltage?
Repair short to body ground in
LT GRN wire between PCM
(A17) and the IMRC/engine
mount control solenoid valve
assembly 6P connector.
If the wire is OK, substitute a
known-good PCM and recheck.

ENGINE MOUNT
CONTROL SOLENOID
VALVE
Test the Engine Mount and Vac-
uum Hose:
Disconnect the upper vacuum
hose from the engine mount con-
trol solenoid valve, and connect a
vacuum pump/gauge to the hose.
Apply vacuum for 20 seconds.
Does the engine mount hold
vacuum?
— Inspect the vacuum hose.
— Replace the left and/or right
engine mount.
VACUUM PUMP/
GAUGE, 0-30 in.Hg.
UPPER VACUUM
HOSE
Test the Engine Mount:
Release the vacuum, then apply
vacuum again.

CONTROL SOLENOID
VALVE
Is there a noticeable change in
idle smoothness with and
without vacuum applied?
Replace the left and/or right
engine mount.
Test the Engine Mount Control
Solenoid Valve:
Disconnect the lower vacuum
hose from the engine mount con-
trol solenoid valve, and connect a
vacuum gauge to the hose.
Is there manifold vacuum?
Repair as needed.
VACUUM PUMP/
GAUGE, 0-30 in.Hg.
LOWER VACUUM
HOSE
Replace the engine mount control
solenoid valve.

Diaphragm Actuator Test
1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses, then remove the left
and right engine mounts (see page
).
2. Remove the actuator cover.

3. Clean and oil the diaphragm actuator rod.
4. With a vacuum pump/gauge, apply vacuum of about
30.7 kPa (230 mm Hg, 9.1 in.Hg), and check that the
actuator rod moves smoothly.
Replace the engine mount if the actuator rod does
not operate.
