DTC 1-3

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON (II), or has
been turned OFF for less than 3 minutes, be careful not
to bump the SRS unit or the side impact sensor; the

airbags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or

injuries.

Check for a short to another wire in the SRS main harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the front passenger's airbag connector (see

page

24-95

).

3. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from the

SRS unit (see page

24-92

).

4. Disconnect the special tool from the SRS main

harness 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

5. Check resistance between the No. 9 terminal and the No.

18 terminal of the SRS main harness 18P connector. There

should be 1 MO or more.

Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:

1. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS

indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds, and then
goes off.

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. See

Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures on page

24-87

.

Check for a short to another wire in the driver's airbag inflator:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector from the

cable reel 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

3. Connect the special tool to the cable reel 2P connec-

tor (see page

24-94

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Short to another wire in the driver's airbag inflator; replace
the driver's airbag (see page

24-160

).

Check for a short to another wire in the cable reel:

1. Disconnect the SRS main harness 2P connector from the

cable reel 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

2. Connect the special tool to the SRS main harness

2P connector (see page

24-94

).

3. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

4. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit (see page

24-181

).

Short to another wire in the cable reel; replace the cable
reel (see page

24-176

).

Troubleshooting - '99 - 01 Models

DTC 1-4

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON (II), or has
been turned OFF for less than 3 minutes, be careful not

Is DTC 1-4 indicated?

Short to power in the driver's airbag inflator; replace the
driver's airbag (see page

24-160

).

Check for a short to power in the cable reel:

1. Disconnect the SRS main harness 2P connector from the

cable reel 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

2. Connect the special tool to the SRS main harness

2P connector (see page

24-94

).

3. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

4. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Short to power in the cable reel; replace the cable reel (see
page

24-176

).

Check for a short to power in the SRS main harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the front passenger's airbag connector (see

page

24-95

).

3. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from the

SRS unit (see page

24-92

).

4. Disconnect the special tool from the SRS main har-

ness 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

5. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
6. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
7. Check for voltage between the No. 9 terminal of the SRS

main harness 18P connector and body ground, and
between the No. 18 terminal of the SRS main harness 18P

connector and body ground. There should be 0.5 V or less.

Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit (see page

24-181

).

Short to power in the SRS main harness; replace the SRS main
harness.

Check for a short to ground in the cable reel:

1. Disconnect the SRS main harness 2P connector from the

cable reel 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

2. Connect the special tool to the SRS main harness

2P connector (see page

24-94

).

3. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

4. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Short to ground in the cable reel; replace the cable reel

(see page

24-176

).

Check for a short to ground in the SRS main harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the front passenger's airbag connector (see

page

24-95

).

3. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from the

SRS unit (see page

24-92

).

4. Disconnect the special tool from the SRS main

harness 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

5. Check resistance between the No. 9 terminal of the SRS

main harness 18P connector and body ground, and
between the No. 18 terminal of the SRS main harness 18P
connector and body ground. There should be 1 Ml) or
more.

Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit (see page

24-181

).

Short to ground in the SRS main harness; replace the SRS
main harness.

DTC 2-1 and DTC 2-2

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON (II), or has

been turned OFF for less than 3 minutes, be careful not

to bump the SRS unit or the side impact sensor; the

airbags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or

injuries.

Troubleshooting - '99 - 01 Models

Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:

1. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS

indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds, and then
goes off.

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. See

Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures on page

24-87

.

Check for an open or increased resistance in the SRS main
harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector (see page

24-94

).

3. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from the

SRS unit (see page

24-92

). Do not disconnect the special

tool (2 ) from the SRS main harness 4P connector.

4. Check resistance between the No. 8 and No. 17 terminals

and between the No. 7 and No. 16 terminals of the SRS
main harness 18P connector. There should be 2.0 - 3.0

Check for an open or increased resistance in the front pas-
senger's airbag inflator:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the SRS main harness 4P connector from the

front passenger's airbag 4P connector (see page

24-95

).

3. Connect the special tool to the SRS main harness

4P connector (see page

24-95

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Open or increased resistance in the front passenger's
airbag inflator; replace the front passenger's airbag (see
page

24-160

).

Faulty SRS unit or poor contact at the SRS main harness
18P connector and the SRS unit; check the connection
between the SRS main harness 18P connector and the SRS
unit. If the connector is OK, replace the SRS unit (see page

24-181

).
