Is the relay OK?
Replace the blower motor relay.
BLOWER MOTOR RELAY 5P CONNECTOR
Check for an open in the wire:
Measure the voltage between the
No. 5 terminal of the blower
motor relay 5P connector and
body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
Repair open in the wire between
the No. 37 fuse and the blower
motor relay.
Wire side of female terminals

the No. 3 fuse and the blower
motor relay.
Is there continuity?
Repair open in the wire between
the blower motor relay and the
blower motor.

not change between FRESH and
RECIRCULATE.
Check the No. 3 (7.5 A) fuse in the
under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
Replace the fuse, and recheck.
RECIRCULATION CONTROL MOTOR
4P CONNECTOR
Check for an open in the wire:
1. Disconnect the recirculation
control motor 4P connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Measure the voltage between
the No. 1 terminal and body
ground.
Is there battery voltage?
Check the recirculation control
motor:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Test the recirculation control
).
Is the recirculation control
motor OK?
Repair open in the wire between
the No. 3 fuse and the recircula-
tion control motor.

Check for a short in the wire(s):
1. Remove the climate control
), and dis-
connect the 8P and 20P con-
nectors.
2. Check for continuity between
the No. 19 and No. 20 termi-
nals of the 20P connector and
body ground individually.
Is there continuity?
Check for a short to power:
Check the same wires for voltage.
Is there any voltage?
Check for an open in the wire(s):
Check for continuity between the
following terminals of the recircu-
lation control motor 4P connector
and the climate control unit 20P
connector.
4P: 20P:
No. 2 —No. 20
No. 4 —No. 19
Is there continuity?
Check for loose wires or poor
connections at the climate con-
trol unit 20P connector and at the
recirculation control motor 4P
connector. If the connections are
good, substitute a known-good
climate control unit, and recheck.
If the symptom/indication goes
away, replace the original climate
control unit.
CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT 20P CONNECTOR
Wire side of female terminals
Repair short in the wire(s) between
the recirculation control motor and
the climate control unit.

Troubleshooting
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor
The blower motor does not run immediately, even though the engine is fully warmed up. (NOTE: The temperature control
dial must be set between 61°F [18°C] and 89°F [32°C].)
Does the malfunction indica-
tor lamp come on?
Check for an open in the wire:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Remove the climate control
), and dis-
connect the 8P and 20P con-
nectors.
3. Disconnect the ECT sensor 2P
).
4. Check for continuity between
the No. 17 terminal of the 20P
connector and the No. 2 ter-
minal of the 2P connector.
Is there continuity?
Check for loose wires or poor
connections at the climate con-
trol unit 20P connector and at
the ECT sensor 2P connector. If
the connections are good, substi-
tute a known-good climate con-
trol unit, and recheck. If the
symptom/indication goes away,
replace the original climate con-
trol unit.
