between M.U.T.-III and immobiliser cannot
be established

P.54A-13

"

Step 5. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code
Check whether the engine immobilizer sys-
tem-related diagnosis code is set.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES :

Refer to

P.54A-8

.

NO :

Go to Step 6.

Step 6. Retest the system.
Check that the ignition key can be registered.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

The procedure is complete.

NO :

Replace the immobilizer ECU, and then go
to Step 7 .

Step 7. Retest the system.
Check that the ignition key can be registered.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

The procedure is complete.

NO :

Replace the engine-ECU <M/T> or
engine-CVT-ECU <CVT>.

Inspection procedure: 3 The Engine does not Start. (Cranking Occurs but Initial Combustion does
not)

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the fuel injection does not work, the immobi-
liser-ECU and the MPI system may be defective. It is
no problem with the malfunction above when the
engine is started with unregistered ignition key.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of MPI system

• Malfunction of immobiliser-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step 1. Battery voltage check
Measure the battery voltage when cranking.

OK: 8 V or more

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 2.

NO :

Check the battery. Refer to

P.54A-5

.

Step 2. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code
Check whether the MPI system-related diagnosis
code is set.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES :

Refer to GROUP 13A, Troubleshooting

P.13A-20

.

NO :

Go to Step 3.

Step 3. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code
Check whether the engine immobiliser sys-
tem-related diagnosis code is set.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES :

Refer to

P.54A-8

.

NO :

Go to Step 4.

Step 4. Check that the engine starts.

Q: Does the engine start?

YES :

The procedure is complete.

NO :

Refer to GROUP 13A, Troubleshooting

P.13A-20

. Replace the immobiliser-ECU

when the cause of the failure cannot tracked
down by performing the troubleshooting.
