Code No. P0638: Throttle Valve Control Servo Circuit Range/Performance Problem
OPERATION
• This system controls the electric current from the
engine-ECU (terminals No. 7 and No. 22) to the
throttle valve control servo (terminals No. 5 and
No. 6).
FUNCTION
• The engine-ECU controls the opening of the
throttle valve by changing the direction and the
amount of the current flowing to the servo coil.
TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
Check Conditions
• Ignition switch is in "ON" position.
• Battery voltage is more than 8.3 V.
• Throttle position sensor (main) output voltage is
more than 0.2 V and is less than 4.8 V.
• When variation in throttle valve opening angle is
small.
Judgement Criterion
• Difference is more than 0.5 V between actual out-
put voltage and target output voltage of throttle
position sensor (main).
Check Conditions
• Ignition switch is in "ON" position.
• (Main and sub) throttle position sensor are nor-
mal.
Judgement Criterion
• Learning value of throttle position sensor (main)
middle opening angle is more than 4.0 V.
PROBABLE CAUSES
• Failed throttle valve return spring
• Failed throttle valve operation
• Failed throttle valve control servo
• Short circuit in or damage to the throttle valve
control servo circuit, or loose connector contact
• Failed engine-ECU
