STEP 8. Check the wiring harness between combination
meter connector C-101 (terminal 13) and fuel level sensor
(sub) connector D-17 (terminal 2).
NOTE: Also check intermediate connectors C-28 for loose, cor-
roded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the
connector. If intermediate connector C-28 is damaged, repair or
replace the connector as described in GROUP 00E, Harness
Connector Inspection
.
Q: Is the wiring harness between combination meter
connector C-101 (terminal 13) and fuel level sensor
(sub) connector D-17 (terminal 2) in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 9.
NO : Repair the wiring harness. The range to empty display
should now operate normally.

STEP 9. Check fuel pump module connector D-18 and fuel
level sensor (sub) connector D-17 for loose, corroded or
damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the
connector.
Q: Is fuel pump module connector D-18 and fuel level
sensor (sub) connector D-17 in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 10.
NO : Repair or replace the component(s). Refer to GROUP
00E, Harness Connector Inspection
. The
range to empty display should now operate normally.
STEP 10. Check the wiring harness between fuel pump
module connector D-18 (terminal 2) and fuel level sensor
(sub) connector D-17 (terminal 1).
Q: Is the wiring harness between fuel pump module
connector D-18 (terminal 2) and fuel level sensor (sub)
connector D-17 (terminal 1) in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 11.
NO : Repair the wiring harness. The range to empty display
should now operate normally.

STEP11. Retest the system.
Check that the range to empty display works normally.
Q: Is the Range to empty display reading normal?
YES : The procedure is complete. (If no malfunctions are
found in all steps, an intermittent malfunction is
suspected. Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use
Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points

NO : Replace the combination meter.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE 3: Total fuel used does not operate (increase). INSPECTION PROCEDURE
4: Total fuel used diplays abnormally low/high value. INSPECTION PROCEDURE 5: Average fuel

INJECTOR PROCEDURE 8: Instant fuel displays abnormally low/high result.

CIRCUIT OPERATION
• The injector power is supplied from the MPI relay
(terminal No. 4).
• The ENGINE-ECU controls the injectors by turn-
ing the power transistor in the ECU "ON" and
"OFF".
• The injectors sends a signal to the Engine-ECU
which in turn sends a signal to the combination
meter via the CAN bus line (every 0.5 of a sec-
ond).

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
• The amount of fuel injected by the injectors is
controlled by the amount of continuity time the
coil is grounded by the ECU.
• A surge voltage is generated when the injectors
are driven and the current flowing to the injector
coil is shut off.
• The ENGINE-ECU checks this surge voltage.
