3. Remove the support cylinder (2) from the upper (1)
and lower (3) ball studs.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE LIFTGATE SUP-
PORT RODS WITH THE LIFTGATE CLOSED. THE
SUPPORT ROD PISTONS ARE OPERATED BY
HIGH PRESSURE GAS AND COULD CAUSE PER-
SONAL INJURY AND/OR VEHICLE DAMAGE IF
THEY ARE REMOVED WITH THE PISTONS COM-
PRESSED (LIFTGATE CLOSED). ONCE REMOVED,
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISASSEMBLE OR REPAIR
THE SUPPORT RODS.
1. Make sure the retaining clips (1) are seated into
the ball socket (2) fully.
2. Install the support cylinder (2) over the ball studs (1
& 3) with the thin end connected to the body and
the retaining clips snapping into place.

REMOVAL
WARNING: Do not disconnect the support rod cyl-
inders with the liftgate closed. The support rod
pistons are operated by high pressure gas. This
pressure could cause damage and/or personal
injury if they are removed while the pistons are
compressed.
1. Open and support the liftgate.
2. Using a trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, remove the
upper rear headliner trim.
3. Remove the support cylinders from the liftgate.
(Refer to 23 - BODY/DECKLID/HATCH/LIFTGATE/
TAILGATE/SUPPORT CYLINDER - REMOVAL)
4. Disconnect the wire harnesses and the washer
hose.
5. Using a grease pencil or equivalent, mark the
hinge location.
6. Remove the six liftgate to body bolts (1) and
remove liftgate from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: A suitable body sealant should be used
when removing or moving the hinges.
1. Position the liftgate onto the vehicle and install the
six body bolts (1).
2. Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.).
3. Check and adjust the liftgate if necessary. (Refer to
23

4. Position the upper rear headliner trim and seat
fully.
ADJUSTMENTS
NOTE: The position of the liftgate can be adjusted upward or downward by the use of slots in the hinge. An
inward or outward adjustment is achieved by use of slots in the body. If an inward or outward adjustment
is needed, use a body sealer on the hinge to body mating surface.

1. Using a trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, remove the
upper rear headliner trim.
2. For the upper lift gate adjustments, loosen the six
hinge to header bolts (1) and adjust to specifica-
tions (Refer to 23 - BODY/BODY STRUCTURE/
GAP AND FLUSH - SPECIFICATIONS)
3. Tighten the hinge bolts to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.).
4. Open the load floor, remove the scuff plate screws
and remove liftgate trim scuff plate.
5. For the lower lift gate adjustments, loosen the
striker screws (1) and adjust to specifications
(Refer to 23 - BODY/BODY STRUCTURE/GAP
AND FLUSH - SPECIFICATIONS)
6. Tighten the striker screws to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the liftgate trim scuff plate and install the
screws.
8. Position the upper rear headliner trim and seat
fully.

Up/Down and Left/Right
1. Loosen the hinge to liftgate bolts (2).
2. Open the load floor, remove the scuff plate screws
and remove liftgate trim scuff plate.
3. Loosen the striker screws (1).
4. Adjust the liftgate up/down position and tighten the
hinge bolts to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.). (Refer to 23 -
BODY/BODY STRUCTURE/GAP AND FLUSH -
SPECIFICATIONS)
5. Confirm the lower liftgate in/out position and tighten
the striker screws to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the liftgate trim scuff plate and install the
screws.
