8. Install rear pinion bearing (2) on pinion gear with
Installer 9347 (1) and a press.
9. Install pinion preload shims (1) on pinion shaft (2).

10. Install pinion gear in housing.
11. Install yoke (1) with Installer C-3718 (2).
12. Install yoke (2) washer (1) on pinion.

13. Install new pinion nut (1).
14. Tighten pinion nut with Yoke Holder 6719A to 292
N·m (215 ft. lbs.) minimum. Do not over-tighten.
Maximum torque is 447 N·m (330 ft. lbs.).
15. Tighten pinion nut with Yoke Holder 6719A and a
torque wrench set at 447 N·m (330 ft. lbs.). Slowly
tighten the nut in 6.8 N·m (5 ft. lbs.) increments
until the rotating torque is achieved. Measure
rotating torque with torque wrench (1) frequently.
16. Pinion rotating torque should be:
•
Original Bearings - 1 to 3 N·m (10 to 20 in. lbs.)
•
New Bearings - 1.7 to 3.9 N·m (15 to 35 in. lbs.)
17. Invert differential case in the vise.

18. Position exciter ring on differential case slowly
and evenly tap the exciter ring into position with a
brass drift.
19. Install ring gear (2) and start two ring gear bolts
(2) to provide case-to-ring gear bolt hole align-
ment.
20. Invert differential case in the vise.
21. Install new ring gear bolts and alternately tighten
to 177 N·m (130 ft. lbs.).
CAUTION: Never reuse ring gear bolts. Failure to
follow these instructions can fracture bolts caus-
ing damage.
22. Install differential into housing and verify backlash
and gear contact pattern.
23. Measure Total Torque to Rotate with an inch
pound torque wrench. This measurement should
be the pinion torque to rotate plus 0.33 - 0.56 N·m
(3 - 5 inch pounds).
