Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module relay power, pin 03
Negative post
Is the voltage between 9 volts and 15 volts?
Yes
GO to A2
.
No
NO supply to the fuel fired heater module relay. REPAIR the circuit as
necessary. For additional information, refer to the wiring diagrams.
A2: CHECK THE CONTROL LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module relay signal, pin 01
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 100 Kohms?
Yes
GO to A4
.
No
GO to A3
.
A3: CHECK WHETHER THE SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND IS IN THE FUEL FIRED HEATER MODULE RELAY HARNESS OR CONTROL
MODULE
Key off.
ECM connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module relay signal, pin 01
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 100 Kohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- ECM
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
A4: CHECK THE CONTROL LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER

Is the resistance greater than 100 Kohms?
Yes
GO to A6
.
No
GO to A5

A5: CHECK WHETHER THE SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER IS IN THE FUEL FIRED HEATER MODULE RELAY HARNESS OR CONTROL
MODULE
Key off.
ECM connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module relay signal, pin 01
Positive post
Is the resistance greater than 100 Kohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- ECM
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
A6: CHECK THE FUEL FIRED HEATER MODULE SIGNAL LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module signal, pin 05
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 100 Kohms?
Yes
GO to A8
.
No
GO to A7
.
A7: CHECK WHETHER THE SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND IS IN THE HARNESS OR THE FUEL FIRED HEATER ASSEMBLY
Key off.
Fuel fired heater assembly connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module signal, pin 05
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 100 Kohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new fuel fired heater assembly.
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
A8: CHECK THE FUEL FIRED HEATER MODULE SIGNAL LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module signal, pin 05
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 100 Kohms?
Yes
GO to A10
.
No
GO to A9
.
A9: CHECK WHETHER THE SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER IS IN THE HARNESS OR THE FUEL FIRED HEATER ASSEMBLY
Key off.
Fuel fired heater assembly connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module signal, pin 05
Positive post
Is the resistance greater than 100 Kohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new fuel fired heater assembly.
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
A10: CHECK THE FUEL FIRED HEATER SIGNAL LINE FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
Key off.
Fuel fired heater assembly connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector, harness
side
Fuel fired heater connector, harness
side
Fuel fired heater module signal, pin 05
Fuel fired heater module signal, pin 05
Is the resistance less than 10 ohms?
Yes
GO to A11
.
No
REPAIR the open circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
A11: CHECK THE POWER TO THE FUEL FIRED HEATER MODULE
Measure the voltage between:
Fuel fired heater connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module power, pin 01
Negative post

Is the voltage between 9 volts and 15 volts?
Yes
GO to A12
.
No
NO supply to the fuel fired heater module circuit. REPAIR the circuit as
necessary. For additional information, refer to the wiring diagrams.
A12: CHECK THE IGNITION SUPPLY TO THE FUEL FIRED HEATER MODULE
Key on, engine off.
Measure the voltage between:
Fuel fired heater connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module ignition supply, pin 04
Negative post
Is the voltage between 9 volts and 15 volts?
Yes
GO to A13
.
No
NO ignition supply to the fuel fired heater module circuit. REPAIR the circuit as
necessary. For additional information, refer to the wiring diagrams.
A13: CHECK THE FUEL FIRED HEATER MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Fuel fired heater module ground, pin 02
Negative post
Is the resistance less than 10 ohms?
Yes
GO to A14
.
No
REPAIR the open circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
A14: CHECK THE CONTROL LINE FOR CONTINUITY
ECM connector disconnected.
Measure the resistance between:
Fuel fired heater relay connector,
harness side
ECM connector, harness side
Fuel fired heater module relay signal, pin 01 Fuel fired heater module relay signal,
pin 80
Is the resistance less than 10 ohms?
Yes
An intermittent fault may be present in the wiring harness. Visually check for
chaffed wires or other physical damage to the harness. If no fault is found in
the circuit, suspect the following component(s):- Fuel fired heater relay- Fuel
fired heater assembly- ECM
No
REPAIR the open circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.

Auxiliary Heating - Electric Booster Heater
Removal and Installation
Removal
1. Remove the air deflector.
For additional information, refer to:
Air Deflector - 2.0L Duratorq-
TDCi/2.2L Duratorq-TDCi (110kW /150PS) - Puma
(501-02 Front End Body
Panels, Removal and Installation).
2. Detach the wiring harness.
3. Detach the coolant hose.
4. NOTE: Clamp the hoses to minimize coolant loss.
Disconnect the coolant hoses.
5. Remove the electric booster heater.
Detach the wiring harness.
