SERVICE PROCEDURES
HEADLAMP ALIGNMENT PREPARATION
(1) Verify headlamp dimmer switch and high beam
indicator operation.
(2) Inspect and correct damaged or defective com-
ponents that could interfere with proper headlamp
alignment.
(3) Verify that the headlamp leveling switch is in
the “0” position.
(4) Verify proper tire inflation.
(5) Clean the headlamp lenses.
(6) Verify that the luggage area is not heavily
loaded.
(7) Fuel tank should be FULL. Add 2.94 kg (6.5
lbs.) of weight over the fuel tank for each estimated
gallon of missing fuel.
ADJUSTMENTS
HEADLAMP AND FOG LAMP ADJUSTMENT USING
ALIGNMENT SCREEN
NOTE: 300M vehicle headlamps should be aligned
using the low beams. The high beams should be
used to verify low beam settings.
ALIGNMENT SCREEN PREPARATION
(1) Position vehicle on a level surface perpendicu-
lar to a flat wall 7.62 meters (25 ft.) away from front
of headlamp lens.
(2) If necessary, tape a line on the floor 7.62
meters (25 ft.) away from and parallel to the wall.
(3) From the floor up 1.27 meters (5 ft.), tape a
line on the wall at the center line of the vehicle.
Sight along the center line of the vehicle (from rear
of vehicle forward) to verify accuracy of the line
placement.
(4) Rock vehicle side-to-side three times to allow
suspension to stabilize.
(5) Jounce front suspension three times by pushing
downward on front bumper and releasing.
(6) Measure the distance from the center of the
headlamp bulbs to the floor (623 mm or 24.5 in. by
design). Transfer measurement to the alignment
screen (with tape). Use this line for up/down adjust-
ment reference.
(7) Measure distance from the center line of the
vehicle to the center of the low beam headlamp bulbs
(1339 mm or 52.7 in.). Transfer measurements to
screen (with tape) to each side of vehicle center line.
Use these lines for left/right adjustment reference.
NOTE: There are reference marks on the lens to
assist in locating the lamp centers.

HEADLAMP ADJUSTMENT
(Fig. 1). The low beams should be aimed such
that the cut-off is 1% below the horizontal cen-
terline established in step 6 of the alignment
screen preparation. For a 7.25m (25ft.) aiming
distance, this is 75mm (3in.). For a standard
10m European aiming screen, this 100mm (4in.).
The vertical aim can be adjusted by turning the
adjusting screw on the top of the leveling
motor.
The horizontal aim should be set so that the notch
between the horizontal component of the cut-off and
the 15° portion is approximately at the headlamp
centerline as shown in the illustration. This is not
normally required, but the horizontal adjusters can
be accessed in the outboard area between the lamp
and the crossmember.

FOG LAMP ALIGNMENT
Prepare an alignment screen. Refer to Alignment
Screen Preparation paragraph in this section. A prop-
erly aligned fog lamp will project a pattern on the
alignment screen 100 mm (4 in.) below the fog lamp
center line and straight ahead. To adjust fog lamp
alignment, rotate the alignment screw (Fig. 3).
