Circuit operation

Battery voltage is always applied from "STOP (15A)" fuse to the stop light switch through the R/W wire. When
the brake pedal is depressed, the stop switch closes and voltage is applied to the high mounted stop light and
both stop lights through the stop light switch and L wire. The lights illuminate for depressing the brake pedal.

Troubleshooting

Stop lights do not operate<BR>

Preliminary check:
Check an open lamp filament before proceeding with diagnosis. If bulb is damaged, check connection of the
bulb and replace bulb. In addition, check "STOP (15A)" fuse. If open, check for short to ground though the wire,
replace fuse and check that all system electrical connectors mated correctly.

Action

1

Connect for voltage at terminal A(R/W) of
stop switch connector F-05.
Is battery voltage present?

Tes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R" or
replace.

2

Check for voltage at terminal B(L) of stop
switch while depressing brake pedal.
Is battery voltage present?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at stop light
switch. If OK, adjust or replace the stop
switch.

3

Use a jump wire to bypass between
terminal A(R/W) and B(L) of stop switch
connctor F-08.
Check for voltage at terminal B(L) of RH
stop light connector E-13, terminal B(L) of
LH stop light connector E-14, and terminal
B(L) of high mounted stop light connector
F-06.
Is battery voltage present respectively?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "W" or
replace.

4

Remove a jumper wire.
Check for continuity between ground and
terminal F(B) of RH stop light connector
E-13, terminal F(B) of LH stop light
connector E-14, and terminal A(B) of high
mounted stop light connector F-06.
Is continuity present respectively?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at stop lights.
If OK, replace light bulbs.

No

Check for a poor connection at ground. If
OK, repair open in the wire "B" or replace.
