Circuit operation

Position, license and taillights (With airbag)

With the light switch in "PARK" or "HEAD" position, one side of "TNS" relay coil is grounded through the light
switch, energizing the relay (the other side of the coil is powered through "TNS(30A)" fuse.
When energized, the normally open contacts of the TNS relay close, allowing battery voltage to be applied to
the position, taillights, license lights through the "TAIL(10A) LH" and "TAIL(10A) RH" fuses, and G wire. The
mentioned lights illuminate.

Position, license and taillights (Without airbag)

With the light switch in "PARK" or "HEAD" position, battery voltage to be applied to the position, taillights,
license lights through the "TAIL(10A) LH" and "TAIL(10A) RH" fuse, and G wire. The mentioned lights
illuminate.

Troubleshooting

Position, license and taillights(With airbag)

Preliminary check:
Check an open lamp filament before proceeding with diagnosis. If bulb is damaged, check connection of the
bulb and replace bulb. In addition, check "TAIL(15A)LH" and "TAIL(15A)RH" fuses and TNS relay. If open,
check for short to ground though the R/G and R/L wire and overload, replace fuse or relay and check that all
system electrical connectors mated correctly.
Position lights do not operate.

switch terminal C(G) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "G" to
combination switch or replace.

Connect test light between the combination
switch terminal C(G) of D-01 and terminal
H(B) of E-01.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at ground. If
OK, repair open in the sire "B" or replace.

Disconnect combination switch connector.
Check for continuity between terminals of
combination switch by turning the switch.
Is combination switch normal?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Replace combination switch assembly.

Connect combination switch connector and
turn the combination switch to "PARK"
position.
Connect test light between terminal A(R/L)
of LH position light E-11 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R/L" or
replace.

Connect test light between terminal A(R/L)
and terminal B(B) or LH position lights
E-11.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at LH position
light. If OK, replace the LH position light
bulb.

No

Check a poor connection at ground.
If OK, repair open in the wire "B" or
replace.

Connect test light between terminal A
(R/G) of RH position light E-12 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R/G" or
replace.

Connect test light between terminal A(R/G)
and terminal B(B) of RH position lights
E-12.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at RH position
light.
If OK, replace the RH position light bulb.

No

Check for a poor connection at ground. If
OK, repair open in the wire "B" or replace.

Taillights do not operate

Check for a poor connection at ground. If
OK, repair open in the sire "B" or replace.

combination switch by turning the switch.
Is combination switch normal?

Replace combination switch assembly.

Connect combination switch connector and
turn the combination switch to "PARK"
position.
Connect test light between terminal A(R/L)
of LH position light E-14 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R/L" or
replace.

Connect test light between terminal A(R/L)
and terminal F(B) or LH position lights
E-14.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at LH position
light. If OK, replace the LH position light
bulb.

No

Check a poor connection at ground.
If OK, repair open in the wire "B" or
replace.

Connect test light between terminal A
(R/G) of RH position light E-14 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R/G" or
replace.

Connect test light between terminal A(R/G)
and terminal F(B) of RH position lights
E-14.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at RH position
light.
If OK, replace the RH position light bulb.

No

Check for a poor connection at ground. If
OK, repair open in the wire "B" or replace.

License lights do not operate

OK, repair open in the sire "B" or replace.

Replace combination switch assembly.

Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at LH position
light. If OK, replace the LH license light
bulb.

No

Check a poor connection at ground.
If OK, repair open in the wire "B" or
replace.

Connect test light between terminal B (R/L)
of RH license light E-16 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R/L" or
replace.

Connect test light between terminal B(R/L)
and terminal A(B) of license light RH E-16.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at RH license
light.
If OK, replace the RH license light bulb.

No

Check for a poor connection at ground. If
OK, repair open in the wire "B" or replace.
