SHORT TO GROUND

TEST CONDITIONS

DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS

BF1: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN CIRCUIT

WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment, the RCM backup power supply must be

depleted. Wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery ground cable(s) before
commencing any repair or adjustment to the SRS, or any component(s) adjacent to the
SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
NOTE: Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.

Deactivate the SRS.

Ignition switch in position II.

Carry out the self-test with the simulators
installed.

Does the system prove out correctly?
Yes

GO to BF2

.

No

GO to BF3

.

BF2: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN MODULE

WARNING: Do not proceed with the test unless using the Ford approved diagnostic

tool. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

Connect the test and deployment lead to the
driver side air curtain module.

Select DMM specific on the Ford approved
diagnostic tool.

Connect the test and deployment lead to the
Ford approved diagnostic tool.

3

Measure the resistance between each of the
terminals and the driver side air curtain module

casing.

Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes

REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.
REACTIVATE the system.

No

INSTALL a new driver side air curtain module.
REFER to:

Side Air Curtain Module - VIN Plate

Body Style Code: S

(501-20B Supplemental

Restraint System, Removal and Installation).
REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.
REACTIVATE the system.

BF3: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN WIRING HARNESS FOR A SHORT TO
GROUND

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect RCM C3R114.

Disconnect Driver Side Air Curtain Module
Simulator.

Measure the resistance between the:

RCM C3R114 pin 17, circuit CR109A (BN/BU),
harness side and ground.
RCM C3R114 pin 18, circuit RR109A (BU/GN),
harness side and ground.

Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes

REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.
REACTIVATE the system.

No

REPAIR circuit circuit CR109A (BN/BU) or circuit
RR109A (BU/GN). REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR
the DTCs. REACTIVATE the system.

PINPOINT TEST BG : DTC B1128 12: DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN CIRCUIT
SHORT TO BATTERY

BG1: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN WIRING HARNESS FOR A SHORT TO
BATTERY OR IGNITION

WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment, the RCM backup power supply must be

depleted. Wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery ground cable(s) before
commencing any repair or adjustment to the SRS, or any component(s) adjacent to the
SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
NOTE: Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.

Deactivate the SRS.

Disconnect Driver Side Air Curtain Module
Simulator.

Disconnect RCM C3R114.

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between the:

RCM C3R114 pin 17, circuit CR109A (BN/BU),
harness side and ground.
RCM C3R114 pin 18, circuit RR109A (BU/GN),
harness side and ground.

Is any voltage present?
Yes

REPAIR circuit circuit CR109A (BN/BU) or circuit
RR109A (BU/GN). REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR
the DTCs. REACTIVATE the system.

No

CONNECT the driver side air curtain module
simulator and the RCM. REPEAT the self-test,
CLEAR the DTCs. REACTIVATE the system.

PINPOINT TEST BH : DTC B1128 13: DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN CIRCUIT
OPEN CIRCUIT

BH1: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN CIRCUIT RESISTANCE

WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment, the RCM backup power supply must be

depleted. Wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery ground cable(s) before
commencing any repair or adjustment to the SRS, or any component(s) adjacent to the
SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
NOTE: Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.

Deactivate the SRS.

Ignition switch in position II.

Carry out the self-test with the simulators
installed.

Does the system prove out correctly?
Yes

GO to BH2

.

No

GO to BH3

.

BH2: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN MODULE SQUIB RESISTANCE

WARNING: Do not proceed with this test unless using the Ford approved diagnostic

tool. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

Connect the test and deployment lead to the
driver side air curtain module.

Select DMM specific on the Ford approved
diagnostic tool.

Connect the test and deployment lead to the Ford
approved diagnostic tool.

3

Measure the resistance of the driver side air
curtain module squib.

4

Is the resistance between 2 and 3 ohms?
Yes

REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.
REACTIVATE the system.

No

INSTALL a new driver side air curtain module.
REFER to:

Side Air Curtain Module - VIN Plate

Body Style Code: S

(501-20B Supplemental

Restraint System, Removal and Installation).
REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.
REACTIVATE the system.

BH3: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN WIRING HARNESS FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
OR HIGH RESISTANCE

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect RCM C3R114.

Disconnect Driver Side Air Curtain Simulator.

Measure the resistance between the:

RCM C3R114 pin 17, circuit CR109A (BN/BU),
harness side and the driver side air curtain
module C5R109 pin 2, circuit CR109A (BN/BU),
harness side.

RCM C3R114 pin 18, circuit RR109A (BU/GN),
harness side and the driver side air curtain
module C5R109 pin 1, circuit RR109A (BU/GN),
harness side.

Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes

REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.
REACTIVATE the system.

No

REPAIR circuit CR109A (BN/BU) or circuit RR109A
(BU/GN). REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.
REACTIVATE the system.

PINPOINT TEST BI : DTC B1128 19: DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN CROSS
LINK TO ANOTHER FIRING CIRCUIT

BI1: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN CIRCUITS

WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment, the RCM backup power supply must be

depleted. Wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery ground cable(s) before
commencing any repair or adjustment to the SRS, or any component(s) adjacent to the
SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
NOTE: Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.

Deactivate the SRS.

Disconnect RCM C3R114.

Disconnect Driver Side Air Curtain Module Simulator.

Disconnect Inoperative Air Bag Module Simulator.

NOTE: Refer to the Wiring Diagrams for pin detail.

Measure the resistance between the:

RCM C3R114 pin 17, circuit CR109A (BN/BU), harness side and the
inoperative air bag module circuits.
RCM C3R114 pin 18, circuit RR109A (BU/GN), harness side and the
inoperative air bag module circuits.

Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes

REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs. REACTIVATE the system.

No

REPAIR the circuits. REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.
REACTIVATE the system.

PINPOINT TEST BJ : DTC B1128 1A: DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN CIRCUIT
LOW RESISTANCE

BJ1: CHECK THE DRIVER SIDE AIR CURTAIN MODULE CIRCUIT RESISTANCE

WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment, the RCM backup power supply must be

depleted. Wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery ground cable(s) before
commencing any repair or adjustment to the SRS, or any component(s) adjacent to the
SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
NOTE: Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.
