Chery B11. Manual — part 29
Driving
117
When the engine is
running, It’s highly prohibited to
disconnect high voltage live wire
loop. Otherwise catalytic converter
could be damaged.~
Notice:
Extreme temperatures occur at the
catalytic converter if it’s been working. To
work nearby it ,gloves and other
protection has to be put on.
Driving Catalyst-equipped
Vehicle
When engine can not be
started properly or its efficiency
appears to decrease, please drive to
nearby Chery Special Service
Center. In this case, do not drive at
high speed.
Be sure to comply with the instructions
above to prevent unburned fuel from
reaching the catalytic converter, especially
when the engine has been running for a
long time.
Avoid Following Situations:
Ÿ
Gasoline being used up.
Ÿ
Continuous attempts of starting the
engine.
Ÿ
Engine running with any of the spark
plug connectors disconnected.
Ÿ
Towing or starting the vehicle when
the engine is at its working
temperature
Ÿ
shut off the ignition switch while
driving.
Parking
Do not park, idle, or drive at location
covered with dry leaves, hay. Even after
the engine has been shut off, It’ll give off
certain amount of heat in a short period of
time, which pose a fire risk.
When parking, do not replace the parking

brake with shift gear. Remember to pull
the parking brake and place the shift gear
to position “P”.
Before leaving the vehicle, remember to
shut off the engine. Do not let the engine
run while there’s nobody remaining in the
vehicle. Otherwise your vehicle might
move unexpectedly and cause damages.
Chassis Protection
Your vehicle is equipped with
heat-insulator. Do not paint nearby the
heat-insulator, exhaust pipe or catalytic
converter. Do not uninstall the
heat-insulator.
Gasoline Consumption
Consumption of gasoline is
subject to following factors:
Vehicle peed and gear chosen
Above figure indicates the
vehicle speed impact on gasoline
consumption for different gear. Keeping in
lower gear to obtain high acceleration will
obviously increase consumption of gas.
Driving distance/engine
temperature
Often cold-starting the engine and drive
locally consume more gasoline per mile.
Road and Traffic Condition
In condition of heavy traffic, uphill slopes,
zigzag and rough roads, gasoline is
consumed faster.
Good Driving Habits
Be defensive and keep a safe distance with
the vehicles ahead. It not only reduces the
gas consumption and also decreases the
wear of brake system and noise.
Vehice speed
Oil consumption
Driving
119
When jammed in traffic or waiting for a
long stop light, shutting off the engine is
recommended.
Idling for three minutes is equivalent to
one kilometer of driving.
Vehicle Load
Increase of vehicle load consumes more
gasoline.
Vehicle Technical Status
Low tire pressure or lack of engine and
improper vehicle maintenance will cause
higher gas consumption
Criteria of Saving Gasoline
and Environment Protection
Ÿ
Saving the gasoline by using the
electronics only when needed.
Ÿ
Start driving the car without
warming up the engine.
Ÿ
Press on the accelerator pedal gently.
Ÿ
Shift to next higher gear as soon as
possible to apply slower engine
speed.
Ÿ
Expect traffic status.
Ÿ
Shut off the air conditioner and
heater when unnecessary.
Ÿ
Check and adjust tire pressure
periodically.
Ÿ
Do regular maintenance, better with
Chery Special Service Center.
Cooling Fan
Cooling fan is driven by electricity. It’s
controlled by engine ECU. When the
coolant or engine compartment reach
certain temperature, the engine ECU will
automatically connect the circuit of
cooling fan.
When the engine is just
shut off, the temperature is
still very high and the fan of cooling
system will continue to work (for
around 10 minutes) until the engine
temperature comes down.
Additionally, if temperature gets
high again (when parked under the
sunlight or at hot location) the
Driving
120
cooling fan might resume working.
For this reason, you have to be very
careful when you get close to the
engine.
Note:
If the coolant temperature has reach the
degree to trigger the cooling fan yet, it
fails to work, check the fan to see if the
fuse has been blown. Replace it if
necessary.
Speed of the cooling fan is not related to
engine speed. Shifting to lower gear do not
slow the cooling fan. For this reason, do
not have to shift to lower gear, if the
vehicle is running uphill with the speed
remaining.
