4.

Check the adjusting ring (8) for damage. If

required, replace the adjusting ring (8).

5.

Check the contact surfaces of the swivel axle

adjusting ring (8) and the axle end for

damage.

6.

Fit the swivel axle (7) with an adjusting

ring (8) of the same thickness as the original

to the axle end.

7.

Centre the adjusting ring (8) with a driver,

ensuring that the needles are not pushed out

of the bearings in the process.

8.

Fit the bearing bush (5) with the tapered side

pointing up in the needle bearings.

9.

Remove grease from the tapered part of the

king pin (9). Fit the king pin (9) in the swivel

axle. Fit the nut (4) and secure it.

10. Check the axial play of the swivel axle; see

'Inspection and adjustment'.

11. Remove the nut (4). Apply locking compound

to the screw thread of the king pin (9). See

'Technical data'. Fit the nut (4) and tighten

the nut (4) specified torque. See 'Technical

data'.

12. Install the O-ring (6).

13. Fit the cover (3).

14. Fit a new O-ring (10) to the cover (11).

15. Install the circlip (12).

16. Install the lubricating nipple (13).

17. Grease the swivel axle at the top and bottom.

Check whether the grease has penetrated

from the top between the axle end and the

swivel axle. At the thrust bearing, the grease

should be pressed out along the entire

circumference between the sealing ring and

the thrust bearing (see arrows in drawing).

18. Check that the swivel axle operates

smoothly and is not getting stuck anywhere.

19. Install the track rod arm and the track rod.

20. If applicable, fit the steering rod.

21. Fit the wheel hub unit.
