TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
If the RV meter cannot communicate with ETACS-
ECU when the ignition switch is turned to the ACC
position, the diagnosis code No. 19 is set.
COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
The harness or connector between the ETACS-ECU
and RV meter may be faulty.
PROBABLE CAUSES
• Malfunction of the RV meter
• Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
• Damaged harness wires and connectors
• Malfunction of the CAN bus
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 2.
NO :
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP
54C
− Troubleshooting ). On completion, go
to Step 2.
STEP 2. M.U.T-III other system diagnosis code.
Check whether the ETACS-ECU diagnosis code is
set.
Q: Is the diagnosis code set?
YES :

ECU, Troubleshooting
). After
diagnosing the ETACS-ECU, go to Step 3.
NO :
Go to Step 3.
STEP 3. M.U.T-III other system diagnosis code.
Check if a diagnosis code, which relates to CAN
communication-linked systems below, is set.
Engine-ECU
• diagnosis code U1109: ETACS-ECU time out
Q: Is the diagnosis code set?
YES :
Go to Step 4.
NO :
Go to Step 5.
STEP 4. Check whether the diagnosis code is
reset.
Recheck if the diagnosis code is set.
(1) Erase the diagnosis code.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF)
position to "ON" position.
(3) On completion, check that the diagnosis code is
not reset.
Q: Is the diagnosis code set?
YES :
Replace the ETACS-ECU and register the
ID codes (Refer to
NO :
The trouble can be an intermittent
malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00
− How to
use Troubleshooting/inspection Service
Points
− How to Cope with Intermittent
Malfunction ).
STEP 5. Check whether the diagnosis code is
reset.
Check again if the diagnosis code is set.
(1) Erase the diagnosis code.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF)
position to "ON" position.
(3) On completion, check that the diagnosis code is
not reset.
Q: Is the diagnosis code set?
YES :
Replace the RV meter.
NO :
The trouble can be an intermittent
malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00
− How to
use Troubleshooting/inspection Service
Points
− How to Cope with Intermittent
Malfunction ).
Code No. 26: Engine CAN Timeout
CAUTION
• If diagnosis code No.26 is set in the RV meter,
diagnose the CAN main bus line.
• Whenever the RV meter is replaced, ensure
that the communication circuit is normal.
NOTE: When the diagnosis codes relating to the
CAN communication error are set, make sure of the
vehicle equipment. When the vehicle is not equipped
with the system the RV meter communicates to, the
diagnosis code is always output. This is not abnor-
mal.
TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
If the engine ECU is not communicated from the RV
meter, the diagnosis code No. 26 is set.

SYMPTOM PROCEDURES
Inspection Procedure 1: The RV meter does not show any information.
CIRCUIT OPERATION
• The RV meter receives the ACC signal from the
ignition switch via the harness wire.
• The RV meter receives the IG1 signal from the
ETACS-ECU by CAN communication, and at the
same time it supplementally receives the signal
from the ignition switch via the harness wire.
