Inspection Procedure 5: The compass does not indicate normally.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

• The compass sensor integrated in the RV meter

is abnormal, or it is seemed that the indication is
affected by some nearby magnetized matter.

• The RV meter receives the vehicle speed pulse

and checks the vehicle status whether it is travel-
ling or being stopped.

NOTE: If the sensor is not normal, the compass is
not displayed.

PROBABLE CAUSES
Malfunction of the RV meter

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check the RV meter.
Check that the average vehicle speed and the aver-
age fuel consumption are displayed normally, and
check that the connection with the vehicle speed
sensor is normal.

Q: Is the check result satisfactory?

YES :

Go to Step 2

NO :

Perform the troubleshooting, Inspection
Procedure 2: "The drive information is not
displayed normally". (Refer to

P.54A-465

.)

STEP 2.Check of own vehicle position.

Q: Is the geomagnetism stable at the place?

YES :

Go to Step 4

NO :

Go to Step 3

STEP 3. Move the vehicle to the geomagnetically
stable location to re-check the geomagnetism.

Q: Does the compass indicate normal?

YES :

There is no action to be taken.

NO :

Go to Step 4

STEP 4. Check of compass sensor for
magnetisation.
Remove the a magnet or metal existing nearby the
compass sensor when the carrier antenna that is
mounted on the body by a magnet.

Q: Does the indication return to normal?

YES :

There is no action to be taken.

NO :

Go to Step 5

STEP 5. Check the declination calibrated value.
In compass setting, check that the initial value of the
declination calibrated value is normal. (Refer to RV
meter, Compass Setting

P.54A-457

.)

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 6

NO :

Repair the declination calibrated value, and
then go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Carry out the compass calibration and
recheck the trouble symptom.
Carry out the compass calibration in the compass
setting, and check if the compass display is normal.
(Refer to RV meter, Compass Setting

P.54A-486

.)

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

The diagnosis is complete.

NO :

Go to Step 7

STEP 7. Delete the compass azimuth circle, and
recheck the trouble symptom.
Carry out the compass azimuth circle delete in the
service mode of the RV meter, and check if the com-
pass display is normal. (Refer to RV meter, Service
Mode

P.54A-457

.)

NOTE: After deleting the compass azimuth circle,
carry out the declination calibration of the compass
setting and the compass calibration.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

The diagnosis is complete.

NO :

Replace the RV meter

Inspection Procedure 6: The radio and CD player information is not displayed normally.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
The radio and CD player operation screen will be fro-
zen if the RV meter have received abnormal data
from the radio and CD player and via M-bus commu-
nication.

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Malfunction of radio and CD player

• Damaged wiring harness and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: Radio and CD player
connector C-126 and RV meter connector C-171.

Q: Is the check result normal?

YES :

Go to Step 2.

NO :

Repair the defective connector.

HOW TO SET THE COMPASS

M1543050000072

In compass setting, when the compass azimuth dis-
play is abnormal, the display can be repaired by per-
forming the following operations.

• Declination calibration: Check that the declination

calibrated value is the same as the one for the
area that vehicle is in now.

• Compass calibration: Overwrites the compass

azimuth circle.

NOTE: If the problem is not solved by performing the
operations above, delete the compass azimuth circle
by the service mode.

HOW TO SET THE DECLINATION CALI-
BRATION VALUE

The "COMPASS SETTING" screen is displayed with

the user customisation function in the RV meter.
(Refer to

P.54A-457

.)

1. When the "COMPASS VARIANCE" screen is

displayed, press the [SELECT] button.

2. The declination calibrated value currently set is

indicated.
NOTE: If "11

°

EAST" is indicated, it means that

the calculated value of compass is calibrated from
north to east by 11

°

to be displayed on the centre

display.

The initial value of declination calibration is
set to 0

°.

3. Referring to the value on the declination

calibration map, adjust the declination calibrated
value by pressing the [

←] button and the [→]

button, so that the value becomes nearest to the
value for the area that the vehicle is in now.

NOTE: The declination calibrated value can be set
between 28

°

WEST and 28

°

EAST at 1

°

intervals.

4. After the declination calibrated value is adjusted,

press the [SET] button. The screen flashes twice
and the value is stored.
