Symptom:
P1719-SKIP SHIFT SOLENOID CIRCUIT OPEN OR SHORTED
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P1719-SKIP SHIFT SOLENOID CIRCUIT OPEN OR SHORTED
When Monitored:
Engine at operating temperature, engine RPM above 608 rpm, vehicle
speed at 12-18 MPH, transmission in first gear with a light to moderate throttle. The PCM
will lock out 2nd and 3rd gears, only allowing a shift to 4th for fuel economy.
Set Condition:
The Skip Shift Solenoid Control circuit is not in the expected state when
requested to operate by the PCM. The PCM operates the solenoid by supplying a ground
path to the Skip Shift Solenoid.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
GOOD TRIP EQUAL TO ZERO
(F202) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUIT
(K33) SKIP SHIFT SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN
(K33) SKIP SHIFT SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
SKIP SHIFT SOLENOID

TEST
ACTION
APPLICABILITY
1
With the DRBIII
t, read DTCs and record the related Freeze Frame data.
Is the Good Trip counter displayed and equal to 0?
All
Yes
→ Go To 2
No
→ Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION Symptom (Diagnos-
tic Procedure).
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 2.
2
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Skip Shift Solenoid harness connector.
Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Ignition on, engine not running.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the (F202) Fused Ignition
Switch Output circuit.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
All
Yes
→ Go To 3
No
→ Repair the open or short to ground in the (F202) Fused Ignition
Switch Output circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 2.

3
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the PCM harness connectors.
Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of the (K33) Skip Shift Solenoid Control circuit between the
PCM connector and the Skip Shift Solenoid connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→ Go To 4
No
→ Repair the open in the (K33) Skip Shift Solenoid Control circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 2.
4
Measure the resistance between ground and the (K33) Skip Shift Solenoid Control
circuit in the Solenoid harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→ Repair the short to ground in the (K33) Skip Shift Solenoid
Control circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 2.
No
→ Go To 5
5
Measure the resistance across both terminals of the Skip Shift solenoid.
NOTE: The resistance should be about 13.5 ohms at 25°C. (77°F).
Is the resistance between 11.0 ohms and 14.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→ Go To 6
No
→ Replace the Skip Shift Solenoid.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 2.
6
NOTE: Before continuing, check the PCM harness connector terminals for
corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.
Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay
particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
