(8) Verify door alignment and operation and adjust

if necessary. (Refer to 23 - BODY/DOOR - FRONT/
DOOR - ADJUSTMENTS)

ADJUSTMENTS

ADJUSTMENT

NOTE: Door adjustment measurements should be
taken from stationary or fixed body panels like the
roof, rocker or quarter panels.

During adjustment procedures, it is recom-

mended that all the hinge fasteners be loosened
except for the upper most fasteners. Adjustments
can be made using the upper bolts to hold the door
with final torque of the fasteners occurring after
correct door positioning is achieved.

A suitable body sealant should be used when

removing or moving the hinges.

FORE/AFT

NOTE: Fore/aft (lateral) door adjustment is done by
loosening the hinge to the hinge pillar fasteners
and moving the door to the correct position.

(1) Support the door with a suitable lifting device.
(2) Remove the three screws and remove the door

hinge cover. (Fig. 3)

(3) Loosen the hinge to hinge pillar fasteners.

(Refer to 23 - BODY/DOOR - FRONT/HINGE -
REMOVAL)

(4) Adjust the door to the correct position. (Refer

to

(5) Tighten the hinge pillar fasteners to 37 N·m

(27 ft. lbs.).

(6) Install the door hinge cover and install the

three screws to the fender.

UP/DOWN

NOTE: Up/down door adjustment is done by loosen-
ing either the hinge to the hinge pillar fasteners or
the hinge to door fasteners and moving the door to
the correct position.

(1) Support the door with a suitable lifting device.
(2) Remove the three screws and remove the door

hinge cover. (Fig. 3)

(3) Remove the latch striker. (Refer to 23 - BODY/

DOOR - FRONT/LATCH STRIKER - REMOVAL)

(4) Loosen the hinge to door fasteners (Refer to 23

- BODY/DOOR - FRONT/DOOR - REMOVAL) or
loosen the hinge to hinge pillar fasteners (Refer to 23
- BODY/DOOR - FRONT/HINGE - REMOVAL).

(5) Adjust the door to the correct position. (Refer

to

(6) Tighten the hinge pillar fasteners or the door

to hinges fasteners to 37 N·m (27 ft. lbs.).

(7) Install the latch striker. (Refer to 23 - BODY/

DOOR - FRONT/LATCH STRIKER - INSTALLA-
TION)

(8) Install the door hinge cover and install the

three screws to the fender.

IN/OUT

NOTE: In/out door adjustment is done by loosening
the hinge to door fasteners and moving the door to
the correct position.

(1) Support the door with a suitable lifting device.
(2) Remove the three screws and remove the door

hinge cover. (Fig. 3)

(3) Remove the latch striker. (Refer to 23 - BODY/

DOOR - FRONT/LATCH STRIKER - REMOVAL)

(4) Loosen the hinge to door fasteners. (Refer to 23

- BODY/DOOR - FRONT/DOOR - REMOVAL)

(5) Adjust the door to the correct position. (Refer

to

(6) Tighten the door to hinges fasteners to 37 N·m

(27 ft. lbs.).

(7) Install the latch striker. (Refer to 23 - BODY/

DOOR - FRONT/LATCH STRIKER - INSTALLA-
TION)

(8) Install the door hinge cover and install the

three screws to the fender.

DOOR GLASS

REMOVAL

(1) Remove the door trim panel. (Refer to 23 -

BODY/DOOR - FRONT/TRIM PANEL - REMOVAL)

(2) Remove the inner belt weatherstrip.
(3) Remove the watershield.
(4) Temporarily connect the batter negative cable.
(5) Lower the glass almost all the way down and

remove the front retainer clip. (Fig. 4)

(6) Raise the glass and remove the two rear

screws.

(7) Disconnect the glass from the regulator and

remove from the door.

INSTALLATION

(1) Position the regulator in the up position.
(2) Install the glass through the window opening

and align the front mounting plate to the lift plate.

(3) Engage the front glass to the regulator lift

plate.

(4) Install the two rear screws and tighten to 4

N·m (35 in. lbs.).

(5) Lower the glass.
(6) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative

cable.

(7) Install the watershield.
(8) Install the inner belt weatherstrip.
(9) Install the door trim panel. (Refer to 23 -

BODY/DOOR - FRONT/TRIM PANEL - INSTALLA-
TION)

ADJUSTMENTS

ADJUSTMENT

NOTE: Verify that the door, mirror flag, and convert-
ible top are properly adjusted to the body prior to
adjusting the door glass.

TOP OF GLASS – INBOARD/OUTBOARD
ADJUSTMENTS

(1) Remove move door trim panel. (Refer to 23 -

BODY/DOOR - FRONT/TRIM PANEL - REMOVAL).

(2) Remove the convertible top side rail weather-

strip from the location to be adjusted.

NOTE: Remove only one weatherstrip section at a
time or the glass to weatherstrip retainer measure-
ments will not be accurate.

(3) Using a 10 mm socket, loosen the jack screw

nuts (Fig. 5) and (Fig. 6).

(4) Using a 3 mm allen wrench, rotate the jack

screw to achieve the proper gap between the door
glass and the weatherstrip retainer (Fig. 5). Tighten
all fasteners prior to measuring the gaps.

(5) Install the weatherstrip. Cycle the glass fully

down and up, open and close the door. Verify that the
edge of the door glass is engaging into the weather-
strip.

(6) Install door trim panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/

DOOR - FRONT/TRIM PANEL - INSTALLATION).

UP/DOWN AND FORE/AFT ADJUSTMENTS

(1) Remove door trim panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/

DOOR - FRONT/TRIM PANEL - REMOVAL).

(2) Loosen the up stop and fore/aft fasteners (Fig.

5) and (Fig. 7).

NOTE: Remove only one weatherstrip section at a
time or the glass to weatherstrip retainer measure-
ments will not be accurate.

(3) Close door and raise door glass.
(4) Adjust the glass to achieve the proper glass to

weatherstrip retainer gap (Fig. 5).

(5) Tighten all fasteners and install the weather-

strip.

(6) Cycle the glass fully down and up, open and

close the door. Verify that the edge of the door glass
is beneath engaging into the weatherstrip.

NOTE: Verify that the forward edge of the glass is
flush with the mirror flag edge. Adjust the mirror
flag as necessary to achieve a flush condition.

(7) Install door trim panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/

DOOR - FRONT/TRIM PANEL - INSTALLATION).

DOOR GLASS ALIGNMENT VERIFICATION

NOTE: Door Glass Alignment Verification procedure
must be done whenever the door glass is adjusted
and after all adjustments are made.

(1) Close door and cycle door glass between full up

and full down positions.

(2) Verify that door glass operates smoothly and

maintains correct alignment to convertible top and
A-pillar.

(3) Verify that door glass does not contact convert-

ible top cloth or seal retainer lip during door closing
with glass full up position.

(4) If any of the above conditions are found, adjust

the door glass as necessary to cure the condition.

OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE

REMOVAL

(1) Open the door and remove the rubber grommet

at the outside handle access hole. (Fig. 8)

(2) Using a small flat bladed tool or equivalent,

release the handle cover from inside the access hole
and remove the handle cover. (Fig. 9)

(3) Remove the two bolts. (Fig. 10)
(4) Depress the lever on the handle assembly and

back out the shipping screw to secure the lever in the
depressed position.

(5) Remove the door trim panel. (Refer to 23 -

BODY/DOOR - FRONT/TRIM PANEL - REMOVAL)

(6) Disconnect the electrical connector.
(7) Remove the handle assembly from the door.
