(11) Tighten the tack strip nuts to 12 N·m (9 ft.
lbs.).
(12) Connect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors.
(13) Position the trim welt and staple into place.
(14) Position the tension cable through the cover
assembly and replace the rivets.
(15) Position the cover assembly at the door open-
ing and install new rivets attaching it to the linkage.
(16) Install new butyl patches on the tack strip
support panel to the clip joint for sealing the tub
area.
(17) Install the front and rear weatherstrip retain-
ers.
(18) Close and latch the convertible top and check
for fit.
FOLDING TOP - ASSEMBLY
REMOVAL
(1) Roll down both door windows.
(2) Unlatch the convertible top.
(3) Disconnect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors. (Fig. 2)
(4) Remove the 14 tack strip nuts. (Fig. 3)
(5) Remove the bulkhead trim panel. (Refer to 23 -
BODY/INTERIOR/BULKHEAD

(6) Remove the bolts and remove the bracket. (Fig.
4)
(7) Remove the lower sidearm/linkage bolts and
remove the sidearm/linkage assembly. (Fig. 5)
(8) Remove the top assembly.
INSTALLATION
(1) Position the top assembly onto the vehicle.
(2) Insert wooden dowel rods or equivalent as
alignment pins, into the sidearm/linkage alignment
holes. (Fig. 16)
(3) Install the lower side arm/linkage bolts and
tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.).
(4) Install the support brackets and install the
bolts.
(5) Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (9 ft. lbs.).
(6) Install the bulkhead trim panel. (Refer to 23 -
BODY/INTERIOR/BULKHEAD

INSTALLATION)
(7) Install the tack strips and install the nuts.
(8) Tighten the tack strip nuts to 12 N·m (9 ft.
lbs.).
(9) Connect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors.
(10) Install the window seals.
(11) Install new butyl patches on the tack strip
support panel to the clip joint for sealing the tub
area.
(12) Open the top fully and adjust the storage
latch if necessary.

(13) Close and latch the convertible top and check
for fit.
REAR WINDOW
REMOVAL
(1) Roll down both door windows.
(2) Unlatch the convertible top.
(3) Remove the front and rear weatherstrip retain-
ers. (Fig. 1)
(4) Drill out the rivets (two per side) at the bottom
of cover assembly to the linkage on both sides.
(5) Drill out the tension cable rivets.
(6) Pull tension cable through the cover assembly.
(7) Pull off the trim welt and uncover the tack
strips. (Fig. 6)
(8) Pull the staples from the welt.
(9) Disconnect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors.
(10) Remove the 14 tack strip nuts.
(11) Pull the staples from the side panels.
(12) Flip the top cover up.
(13) Remove the staples from the backlite fabric to
tack strip. (Fig. 7)
(14) Remove the staples from the backlite fabric to
the rear/4 bow and remove the backlite.
INSTALLATION
(1) Using the old rear window, trim the excess
material from the new window.
(2) Position the window onto the rear/4 bow and
staple into place.
(3) Position the lower window fabric onto the tack
strips and staple into place.
(4) Flip the cover down over the rear window and
position the side panels onto the tack strips.
(5) Staple the side panels into place.
(6) Install the tack strips over the studs and
install the nuts.
(7) Tighten the tack strip nuts to 12 N·m (9 ft.
lbs.).
(8) Connect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors.
(9) Position the trim welt and staple into place.
(10) Position the tension cable through the cover
assembly and replace the rivets.
(11) Position the cover assembly at the door open-
ing and install new rivets attaching it to the linkage.
(12) Install new butyl patches on the tack strip
support panel to the clip joint for sealing the tub
area.
(13) Install new butyl patches on the tack strip
support panel to the clip joint for sealing the tub
area.
(14) Install the front and rear weatherstrip retain-
ers.
(15) Close and latch the convertible top and check
for fit.
STAY PADS - STRAPS
REMOVAL
(1) Roll down both door windows.
(2) Unlatch the convertible top.
(3) Remove the front and rear weatherstrip retain-
ers. (Fig. 1)
(4) Drill out the rivets (two per side) at the bottom
of cover assembly to the linkage on both sides.

(5) Drill out the tension cable rivets.
(6) Pull tension cable through the cover assembly.
(7) Remove the 11 screws and remove the seal
compression panel.
(8) Remove the staples from the cover assembly to
the header assembly.
(9) Remove the tack strip nuts as required to get
access to the side panel staples.
(10) Flip up the cover and expose the stay pad
strip.
(11) Remove the staples at the rear/4 bow.
(12) Remove the rivets at the header assembly.
(13) remove the stay pad strip.
INSTALLATION
(1) Position the stay pad strap onto the rear/4 bow
and staple into place.
(2) Position the strap onto the header assembly
and install new rivets.
(3) Position the cover assembly side panels and
staple into place on to the tack strip.
(4) Install the tack strip nuts removed previously
and tighten to 12 N·m (9 ft. lbs.).
(5) Position the cover over the header and staple
into place.
(6) Install the seal compression panel and tighten
the screws to 5 N·m (45 in. lbs.).
(7) Position the tension cable through the cover
assembly and replace the rivets.
(8) Position the cover assembly at the door opening
and install new rivets attaching it to the linkage.
(9) Install the front and rear weatherstrip retain-
ers.
(10) Close and latch the convertible top and check
for fit.
BOW - CENTER/3
REMOVAL
(1) Roll down both door windows.
(2) Unlatch the convertible top.
(3) Remove the four bolts and remove the center/3
bow. (Fig. 8)
INSTALLATION
(1) Install the center/3 bow and install the bolts.
(2) Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (45 in. lbs.).
(3) Close and latch the convertible top and check
for fit.
BOW - REAR/4
REMOVAL
(1) Roll down both door windows.
(2) Unlatch the convertible top.
(3) Remove the front and rear weatherstrip retain-
ers. (Fig. 1)
(4) Drill out the rivets (two per side) at the bottom
of cover assembly to the linkage on both sides.
(5) Drill out the tension cable rivets.
(6) Pull tension cable through the cover assembly.
(7) Pull off the trim welt and uncover the tack
strips. (Fig. 6)
(8) Pull the staples from the welt.
(9) Disconnect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors.
(10) Remove the 14 tack strip nuts.
(11) Pull the staples from the side panels.
(12) Flip the top cover up.
(13) Remove the staples from the backlite fabric to
the rear/4 bow and remove the backlite.
(14) Remove the rear/4 bow bolts and remove the
rear/4 bow. (Fig. 8)
INSTALLATION
(1) Install the rear/4 bow and install the bolts.
(2) Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (55 in. lbs.).
(3) Position the window onto the rear/4 bow and
staple into place.
(4) Flip the cover down over the rear window and
position the side panels onto the tack strips.

(5) Staple the side panels into place.
(6) Install the tack strips over the studs and
install the nuts.
(7) Tighten the tack strip nuts to 12 N·m (9 ft.
lbs.).
(8) Connect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors.
(9) Position the trim welt and staple into place.
(10) Position the tension cable through the cover
assembly and replace the rivets.
(11) Position the cover assembly at the door open-
ing and install new rivets attaching it to the linkage.
(12) Install new butyl patches on the tack strip
support panel to the clip joint for sealing the tub
area.
(13) Install the front and rear weatherstrip retain-
ers.
(14) Close and latch the convertible top and check
for fit.
CLOTH SUPPORT PANEL
REMOVAL
(1) Roll down both door windows.
(2) Unlatch the convertible top.
(3) Remove the front weatherstrip retainers. (Fig.
1)
(4) Remove the header molding.
(5) Remove the staples from the cover assembly to
the header assembly.
(6) Flip the cover back.
(7) Remove the 14 screws and remove the header
support panel
INSTALLATION
(1) Install the cloth support panel and install the
screws.
(2) Tighten the screws to 5 N·m (45 in. lbs.).
(3) Position the cover over the header and staple
into place.
(4) Install the seal compression panel and tighten
the screws to 5 N·m (45 in. lbs.).
(5) Install the front and rear weatherstrip retain-
ers.
(6) Close and latch the convertible top and check
for fit.
HEADER ASSEMBLY
REMOVAL
(1) Remove both tension cables. (Refer to 23 -
BODY/CONVERTIBLE
TOP/TENSION
CABLE
-
REMOVAL)
(2) Remove the cover assembly rivets to the rear of
the header assembly.
(3) Remove the rivets attaching the stay pad
straps to the header assembly.
(4) Remove the four linkage bolts and remove the
header assembly.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Make sure the mounting bushings are
installed in the header assembly before installing
the bolts.
(1) Install the header assembly and install the
bolts.
(2) Tighten the rear rail bolts to 18 N·m (13 ft.
lbs.).
(3) Tighten the balance link shoulder bolts to 20
N·m (15 ft. lbs.).
(4) Position the stay pad straps onto the header
assembly and install new rivets.
(5) Position the cover assembly onto the back of
the header and install new rivets.
(6) Install the both tension cables. (Refer to 23 -
BODY/CONVERTIBLE

TACK STRIP
REMOVAL
(1) Roll down both door windows.
(2) Unlatch the convertible top.
(3) Pull off the trim welt and uncover the tack
strips. (Fig. 9)
(4) Pull the staples from the welt.
(5) Disconnect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors.
(6) Remove the 14 tack strip nuts. (Fig. 10)
(7) Pull the staples from the side panels.
(8) Flip the top cover up.
(9) Remove the staples from the backlite fabric to
tack strip.
(10) Remove the tack strip.
INSTALLATION
(1) Position the lower window fabric onto the tack
strips and staple into place.
(2) Flip the cover down over the rear window and
position the side panels onto the tack strips.
(3) Staple the side panels into place.
(4) Install the tack strips over the studs and
install the nuts.
(5) Tighten the tack strip nuts to 12 N·m (9 ft.
lbs.).
(6) Connect the rear window defroster electrical
connectors.
