External Multimedia Device Interface -
R215- , Removing and Installing
The External Multimedia Device Interface - R215- is located in the
front center console storage compartment.
Removing
– Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment.
– Remove the ignition key, if equipped.
– Remove the front center console storage compartment. Refer
to ⇒ Body Interior; Rep. Gr. 68 ; Center Console; Front Center
Console Storage Compartment, Removing and Installing .
– Press the retaining tabs in direction of -arrow A- on the Exter‐
nal Multimedia Device Interface - R215- -1-.
– Remove the External Multimedia Device Interface - R215-
-2- from the storage compartment -1-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.

External Audio Source Connection -
R199- , Removing and Installing
The External Audio Source Connection - R199- is located in the
front center console storage compartment.
Removing
– Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment.
– Remove the ignition key, if equipped.
– Remove the front center console storage compartment. Refer
to ⇒ Body Interior; Rep. Gr. 68 ; Center Console; Front Center
Console Storage Compartment, Removing and Installing .
– Press the retaining tabs in direction of -arrow A- on the Exter‐
nal Audio Source Connection - R199- -1-.
– Remove the External Audio Source Connection - R199- -2-
from the storage compartment -1-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.

USB Distributor - R293- , Removing and
Installing
The USB Distributor - R293- is located under the right center con‐
sole next to the shifter. The USB Distributor - R293- provides a
connection for several USB devices, such as USB Charging
Socket 1 - U37- and External Audio Source Connection - R199- ,
to a USB connection in the Information Electronics Control Mod‐
ule 1 - J794- .
Removing
– Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment.
– Remove the ignition key, if equipped.
– Remove the center console insert. Refer to ⇒ Body Interior;
Rep. Gr. 68 ; Center Console; Center Console Insert, Re‐
moving and Installing .
– Press the catch on the bracket for the USB Distributor - R293-
-4- in direction of -arrow A-.
– Lift the USB Distributor - R293- -1- and remove it toward the
rear.
– Release and disconnect the connectors -2 and 3-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.

USB Charging Socket 1 - U37- , Remov‐
ing and Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Trim Removal Wedge - 3409-
♦ Torque Wrench 1783 - 2-10Nm - VAG1783-
The USB Charging Socket 1 - U37- is located in the center con‐
sole storage compartment. It is a component of the Storage
Compartment with Cell Phone Interface - R265- and serves as a
charging connection for the Cellular Telephone - R54- .
Removing
– Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment.
– Remove the ignition key, if equipped.
Caution
Risk of damaging the component surfaces.
♦ When positioning a prying tool, put commercially available
adhesive tape over the component in the visible area.
– Fold the center console armrest up.
– Pry off the cover -3- using the Trim Removal Wedge - 3409- .
– Remove the bolts -1-.
– Remove the mounting plate -2- from the storage compartment
in direction of -arrow A-
– Release and disconnect the connectors.
– Push the catches -2- in direction of -arrow B- off of the USB
Charging Socket 1 - U37- .
– Remove the USB Charging Socket 1 - U37- -1- in direction of
-arrow A-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.

10.1
Overview - Mobile Online Services
The mobile online services are based on the Online Connectivity
Unit (OCU) and the Control Module for Emergency Call Module
and Communication Unit - J949- , EL2.
The Control Module for Emergency Call Module and Communi‐
cation Unit - J949- is safeguarded against a crash by being
installed behind the Instrument Cluster - KX2- . The Control Mod‐
ule for Emergency Call Module and Communication Unit - J949-
contains a telephone module, emergency call module and a
compass module. For determining location, the Control Module
for Emergency Call Module and Communication Unit - J949- con‐
tains a GPS receiver. A separate SIM card is installed for the
emergency call function and roadside assistance. Additional on‐
line services are available with a respective contract.
