No.315 Malfunction check list of malfunction free code

1

The ignition switch is in ON position (the engine is in stall state) while
the ABS alarm lamp does not light up

Possible cause

[Description]

ABS alarm lamp does not light up. It might be caused by the

open circuit of the alarm lamp power return, burnt out of the bulb or damage
of the alarm lamp controller.

z

The fuse is burnt

z

Bulb of ABS alarm lamp is
burnt

z

The power circuit is broken

z

ABS alarm lamp controller is

damaged

Remove the ABS ECU joint, and the
ignition switch is ON
Does the alarm lamp light up?

Inspect if bulb of ABS alarm
lamp is burnt

Inspect if the power return
and the earth return of the
alarm lamp in ABS harness is
open

Inspect the connector of the
alarm lamp power return and
the earth return

Does the failure recur?

Inspect if the wire connecting ABS
alarm lamp controller and ECU in
ABS harness is short or earthed

Replace the alarm lamp
controller

Check the ABS alarm lamp fuse in
the central electric appliance box

Inspect the fuse socket of the
central electric appliance box

See the maintenance
importance of
incidental trouble

No.316 The ABS alarm lamp is normally open after the engine starts

2

The ABS alarm lamp is normally open after the engine is started.

Possible cause

[Description]

The possible cause is that ABS alarm lamp controller is

damaged or the ABS alarm lamp return is open.

z

The alarm lamp controller is damaged

z

Return of ABS alarm lamp controller is open

z

ABS ECU is damaged

Note: this failure mode confines to the condition of the system being capable of communicating with the failure
diagnosis instrument (power supply of ABS ECU is normal) and no malfunction code appeared.

No.317 ABS is in abnormal operation

3

ABS is in abnormal operation

Possible cause

[Description]

This problem is closely related to the driving condition

and the road surface, therefore the failure diagnosis is difficult to be
made. However the following inspections can be made provided there
is no malfunction code memory.

z

The sensor is of improper installation

z

There is something wrong with the sensor harness

z

The sensor is damaged

z

The tooth ring is damaged

z

The sensor is stained with foreign materials

z

The wheel bearing is damaged

z

ABS HCU (hydraulic unit) is damaged

z

ABS ECU (electric control unit) is damaged

Inspect if the wire between ECU and ABS alarm
lamp controller is open

Inspect the ABS alarm lamp controller

Replace the harness

Replace it

Replace ABS ECU

Is the sensor installation correct?

Inspect output voltage of the sensor

Inspect each sensor

Inspect each sensor tooth ring

Carry out the hydraulic control unit
diagnostic using the failure diagnosis
instrument

Replace ABS HCU

Inspect the wheel bearing
clearance

Inspect ABS ECU socket and
the central connector

Refer to the
maintenance gist
of incidental
trouble

Remove ABS ECU and inspect
ABS
Does the resistence value
between the following terminals
of the harness meet the standard
value? Standard value: 1.0 ~
1.3 k; shake the sensor harness
and the connector
simultaneously during the
measurement

No.318 The brake pedal stroke is too long

4

The brake pedal stroke is too long

Possible cause

[Description] Visually inspect if there is any exterior
leakage or mechanical failure. Check if there is air in the
system by the air exhausting method. Check if the normally
closed valve is leaked with the function test of failure
diagnosis hydraulic unit.

z

The braking fluid is leaked

z

The normally closed valve is leaked

z

There is air in the system

z

The brake disc is of heavy wear

z

The hand braking is improper adjusted

Diagnostic and inspect the sealing property of
the normally closed valve with the failure
diagnosis hydraulic control unit

Inspect worn condition of the brake disc

Visually inspect if the hydraulic pipe joint is leaked

Inspect the hand braking adjust device

Air exhaust inspection

Tighten the pipe joint as required

Replace the brake disc

Replace the hand braking adjust device

Carry out the air exhaust again

Replace HCU (hydraulic control unit)
