No. 037 Abnormal sound of crankshaft bearing
Malfunction Cause
Solution
Oil filter blocked
Replace the oil filter
Poor oil quality
Change oil
Engine water temperature high
Eliminate it in accordance with malfunction
of high water temperature;
Abnormal pressure of oil pump
Check oil pressure, abnormality will also
cause abnormal sound, if necessary,
change oil pump;
Matching clearance between main bearing shell and
main bearing journal too large
Check the matching clearance between
main bearing shell and main bearing
journal, the value is 0.020mm-0.059mm, if
the clearance exceeds limit 0.1mm, it is
necessary to select main bearing shell
again according to measured diameter of
main bearing journal and technical
requirements (empirical value);
Thrust clearance between thrust washers too large
Measure thrust clearance of crankshaft at
thrust washer, the value is
0.087mm-0.177mm, if the value exceeds
limit 0.300mm, the thrust washer should be
changed; (empirical value)
Crankshaft bending
Check crankshaft camber, if the camber
exceeds limit 0.1mm, the crankshaft should
be corrected or changed (empirical value);
Main bearing shell is ablated and worn seriously
Check that there is any peeling, ablation or
other abnormality on the surface of bearing
shell, if the bearing shell fails, it should be
changed;
There is abnormal sound in
crankshaft bearing, sound is
heavy in crankcase with
toneless “plump”; the faster
the engine speed, the louder
the noise, and the noise is
obvious particularly when
accelerating suddenly. When
serious, engine block
vibrates, lubricant pressure
reduces; the noise does not
change when engine
temperature changes.
Bolt on the cover of main bearing shell is loose
If main bearing shell is just loose, tighten
the bolt on the cover of main bearing shell
by torque specified;

Poor oil quality
Change oil
Oil filter clogged
Replace the oil filter
Oil too diluents

Abnormal pressure of oil
pump
Check oil pressure, abnormality will also cause abnormal sound, if
necessary, replace oil pump;
Shell clearance too large
Check the clearance between connecting rod bearing shells, the
value is 0.020mm-0.063mm, if the clearance exceeds limit 0.1mm, it
is necessary to select connecting rod bearing shell again according
to measured connecting rod bearing diameter and technical
requirements. (empirical value);
Shell wearing excessively,
loosing or breaking etc.
Check that there is any peeling, wearing, ablation or other
abnormality on the surface of connecting rod bearing shell, if the
bearing shell fails, it should be changed;
When engine accelerates
suddenly, obvious clear
and short knocking is
produced and becomes
louder as the loading
increases; creaking can be
heard by shaking throttle
slightly; the noise does not
change obviously when
engine temperature
changes.
Connecting rod bolt is loose
If connecting rod bearing shell is just loose, tighten the bolt by torque
specified;
